I did 5+ hours on Comm Ave on Monday cheering on the marathon runners. I stayed until the last MGH team member got to the MGH party at Mile 20 - my friend Julie. Her younger son, Shane, went through chemo for bladder cancer at the same time that Ronnie was doing his first round of chemo. Shane has been cancer free for 4 years! Julie and I hung together during our first marathon until my knees gave out and I made her go on without me. She didn't run again until this year. (She is now a breast cancer survivor herself!) By the time she got to Mile 20, it was only the team organizers, her family, and me left to cheer her on. We got our picture taken together and I told her I was back out there next year. She said, "I'm not!" and I said, "Good, that means you can wait for me at Mile 20."
The first thing I did on Tuesday morning was look for her name in the paper. I started at the bottom and there she was about 30 names up with a time of 6:00:19. I cried. Neither of us do this because we're fast.
I did one last run without the knee braces yesterday, they go back on tomorrow when I start training for 116th Boston Marathon on April 16th, 2012.

I was thinking about you and Ronnie on Monday, every time someone on the news or twitter or FB mentioned the marathon. Glad the memories of last year's run & pain have faded enough that you're embarking on the journey for next year!!
