When was the Last Time you Purchased a Head of Lettuce?

Post by EarlJam » April 20th, 2011, 11:41 am

Seems now days most people get their lettuce at the Fresh Market or in a bag, pre-washed.

I remember the days of yore when my mama and me would get heads of lettuce wrapped tightly in Saran Wrap or whatever and just chuck it in the fridge.

So, tell me, when was the last time you purchased a wrapped, full head of lettuce?

About a week ago. It was so much cheaper than buying the bag of pre-made salad, and all I really wanted was the iceberg lettuce anyway!

I don't buy iceberg lettuce anymore. It's hard to get good looking lettuce in the stores around here.

I buy baby salad greens organically grown. They seem to look the freshest, although that's a relative term.

I got spoiled living in California. The produce is so much more beautiful there.

Bought some yesterday for BLTs. Very cold wedges are nice, too, when topped with my home made 1000 Island dressing.

I mostly buy Romaine these days. My doctor got on me for eating iceberg, saying it really had no nutritional value.

Better than eating a bowl of speghetti though, right? I mean, no nutritional value but it fills you up more so you don't eat stuff with "negative" nutritional value. The isotopes in red wine are good for you. That's why I eat a half a head of lettuce with a big bottle of red wine every night.

I had the Bistecca Insalata at Brio on Saturday. It is a wedge of iceberg lettuce with creamy parmesan dressing and other goodies on it. It was yummy.

But I didn't purchase a head of lettuce to get that salad.
