Dear mods,
Please change "Eartly" Entries to Early Entries. It's gonna bug the shit out of me if I have to look at it that way for the next 6 weeks.

My bad - I didn't see it before submitting. And then I was expected to do work rather then review my post during the edit period.wilson wrote:Dear mods,

May 8th is the deadline to return
A much shorter window this year then in previous years

Ashton Gibbs (Pitt). He's a junior so this makes a lot of sense no matter if he was going in the first round or not. Now he can go to workouts paid for by NBA teams and get an idea of anything he needs to work on if he chooses to return.

Re: NBA Early Entries
Interesting. And damn. Even though I wish he left (only for being a Duke fan), I do like that 2 high picks have elected to stay. There may be hope yet for college basketball.robertduke32 wrote:Barnes is returning. I was just forwarded this link by the enemy, backed by a Ram's Club members assurance that it was legit.

Re: NBA Early Entries
I said this OY, but I'll say it here too... I wonder if the looming threat of an NBA lockout will make for one of the most talented pool of college players we've seen in years next season. Some players will undoubtedly wait it out to see how the chips fall. Hopefully Kyrie will be one of them.

It's either the last day of June or the first day of July. I forget which, but it's about a week after the draft.Lavabe wrote:On what date will they have a lockout?Jesus_hurley wrote:April 24th is the last day to declareCameronBornAndBred wrote:When is the deadline to announce by?

Re: NBA Early Entries
I don't think the lockout will induce many kids to come back to school who otherwise would have left. Rather, I think it could have the opposite effect. The value of rookie contracts will decline under the next CBA, and even if they don't play a chunk of next season, the incoming rookie crop will be grandfathered into higher-value initial contracts than the 2012 class will get.

Re: NBA Early Entries
Yea, but they're saying that there WILL be a lockout in the NBA, and that it'll be longer than the NFL lockout, and that there is a decent chance they'll miss the whole season. If that's the case, then the players drafted this year wouldn't get their contracts until AFTER the new CBA goes into effect. If that happens, they'll be under the new rules anyway, and they'll have sat an entire year. At least that's what they're saying on the radio.

Re: NBA Early Entries
No way those players will dig in and let an entire season be lost. I am also under the impression that players drafted this year will be grandfathered into the existing CBA, regardless of when they start playing. I'll have to do a bit of research on that.bjornolf wrote:Yea, but they're saying that there WILL be a lockout in the NBA, and that it'll be longer than the NFL lockout, and that there is a decent chance they'll miss the whole season. Re: NBA Early Entries
I think whether they are grandfathered in depends on what is negotiated into the CBA. From the comments OY, it appears that the current CBA doesn't specify they are grandfathered in under that CBA. Therefore, I think they come under whatever terms are put into the new CBA, which may be negotiated to give this year's draft the old rookie contract rules but it may be negotiated that they come under whatever the new rookie contract rules are. Seems to me that this year's rookie class could be up in the air at the time of the draft.wilson wrote:No way those players will dig in and let an entire season be lost. Re: NBA Early Entries
Zeller and Henson stay. (Barnes is still deciding.)

North Carolina forwards John Henson and Tyler Zeller will return to college and play basketball for the Tar Heels in 2011-12.
Henson, a sophomore from Tampa, Fla., and Zeller, a junior from Washington, Ind., were each second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selections in 2011.
Freshman forward Harrison Barnes is still reviewing information about the possibility of declaring for the NBA Draft.
