Visitor versus Newcomer

Post by knights68 » November 3rd, 2009, 7:18 am

In the spirit of the premier of the updated version tonight of "V". a thought occurred to me.....
If the best alien visitor got into a fight with the best Alien Nation Tencton (or "newcomer"), who would win? lol

Who/how many of our illustrious group are going to watch the premier tonight??

As long as they don't fight on the beach, the newcomers would kick ass.

:)) True!
I agree, in a hand to hand combat setting I believe the newcomers would make lizard meat out of the visitors in short order.

(To those who are unaware, saltwater is like acid to newcomers)

I'm watching. I was a kid when the first V was out and I loved it.

What was it... 1984ish? Guess that made me 7. Alien Nation was a bit later though, IIRC. Watched it too.

Should we fill him in without spoilers on what happened in the original series? Will they be doing the same kind of reveals?

Yes, fill 'em in on the basics, no need to provide spoilers. Let him determine/find that out on his own (via HULU and YOUTUBE). lol

Did anyone catch the show last night? What did you think?
I am seriously considering waiting to watch the show. Waiting until end of the month for all 4 shows to premier (before going on the "holiday hiatus" until Spring.... WTF?!!). HULU of course! lol

My only question is was the first episode worth it to even watch now or in a month?

The first episode was a lot of fun. My wife turned to me about 45 minutes in and said "this is really good. It's like a movie."

They do a lot in the first hour. There's a ton of progress. It's not like LOST where they are going to drag out revealing everything and setting stuff up. By the end of the hour we are WAY into the story. So if you'd rather it be slowly drawn out, then you may not like it. I have a feeling they felt compelled to have a lot happen to suck people in.

I agree, it was a lot of fun. Good sneak peak at what else will be revealed this season, which was something new to me. I like all of the characters with the exception of Tyler, the teenage son of Erica. He's not horrible, he just didn't impress me. I'll be tuning in next week.

I really hope "V" can steer clear of shark infested waters.

The new V

Post by knights68 » November 7th, 2009, 8:08 am

I finally saw the premier of V last night.

And I have to say that I was seriously unimpressed.
I thought the classic series had cooler ships, and gosh, I missed the looks-like-I-just-had-cataract-surgery shades from the classic.

The story was boring and very obvious in a lot of ways (who didn't think the cops partner was somehow involved?; or the stupid, hormone driven kid (I hate stories with hormon driven kids))

In the shows defense, I did watch this at 3 am this morning as I am under the weather and my mood/attention/desire for sleep is off currently. Otherwise, I thought the show's first episode was a big ol snore.

I'll watch the next episode or two, just to give it a decent shot.

I'm not familiar enough with the aliens in question to express an opinion, but this reminds me of another favorite debate: Terminator or Robocop?

Terminator gets a lot of reflexive credit, but if you roll the tape, you'll see Robocop was quite the badass.
