Any Guitar Players Here?
Does anyone here play guitar? If so, what guitar(s) do you have and what other equipment such as amps and effects pedals do you use?
I played when I was a kid and gave it up (HUGE mistake) but have decided to take it up again. My roommate's brother has recently moved in with us and he has said that, since I've been talking for ages about learning to play again, he'll get me back up to speed on the basics and then I can take things from there. He has a Fender Strat and a Gibson SG but won't let me touch his SG. The Strat fine, but not the SG. I can't really blame him for that though as I doubt I would let anyone touch any Gibson that I owned! So I'm buying a guitar for myself because it is just more convenient to learn on my own instrument. I want a Les Paul (the Epiphone version) but can't really justify the money right now so I'm going to buy an Ibanez (their GRG170DX model for anyone who is familiar with their stuff) and, most likely, a Line 6 Spider III amp.
If anyone else here plays and would be interested in discussing guitars, amps, or playing in general I`d be up for it.

I play the bass. Sadly, I am no longer in possession of an electric bass or a rig but I do have an acoustic-electric Fender. It's got a decent tone and action, but it's a 3/4 stock.
I like music.

I'm not sure why but, for some reason, I thought we'd have more guitar players here than we do.

I just hope folks aren't "stringing" you along and that you don't "fret" very much over the matter. :roll:colchar wrote:I'm not sure why but, for some reason, I thought we'd have more guitar players here than we do.

Re: Any Guitar Players Here?
I play when I have the time. Hopefully this spring I'll be able to take lessons again.
I have a Bennett acoustic and a Schecter electric. I use a Fender G-DEC 30 amp which, if I took enough time to figure it out, could sound amazing.

I kinda wish I were a guitar player. I need to buy a new instrument, but I'm a saxophonist and pianist. The sax I want is $4000 and the piano I want is at least $5000 used. I think being a guitarist would be cheaper.

Re: Any Guitar Players Here?
It all depends on what quality of instrument you want to play, and the sound you want to make. You can find plenty of replicas, or Japanese/Chinese-made knockoffs that are quite affordable, but I'd really love a vintage Fender Jazz. That'll run about $5,000 used, in decent condition. Could run up to $10K in mint. None of this includes the amp/cabinet.DukeUsul wrote:I kinda wish I were a guitar player. I need to buy a new instrument, but I'm a saxophonist and pianist. Buy a Gibson Les Paul and a decent amp (especially a Marshall) and it will easily run you $5000+.

Re: Any Guitar Players Here?
I just lament the fact that I can't even get a piece-of-shit entry-level student model saxophone from an actual reputable manufacturer for less than $1000. A half-decent one would run $2000. I really need a replacement and they're just too damn expensive.colchar wrote:DukeUsul wrote:I kinda wish I were a guitar player. I need to buy a new instrument, but I'm a saxophonist and pianist. At least you're not a bassoonist like me. I played throughout school and for a little while in a community band. I used band-owned instruments because I've never been able to afford my own. Plastic student model bassoons start out around $3,000. An excellent wooden bassoon is more than $45,000. Maybe I'll win the lottery one day, sigh.DukeUsul wrote:I just lament the fact that I can't even get a piece-of-shit entry-level student model saxophone from an actual reputable manufacturer for less than $1000. Re: Any Guitar Players Here?
I hear your woes. You're right, you get a really good guitar for less than a grand. If you're a serious musician, you'll start to find that the $500 instruments just aren't getting it done anymore. Again, these don't even include your rig. For me, a decent practice/gig combo is gonna run me about $600.DukeUsul wrote:I just lament the fact that I can't even get a piece-of-shit entry-level student model saxophone from an actual reputable manufacturer for less than $1000. I believe EJ plays. If he doesn't, he has a room ornament that looks exactly like a guitar.colchar wrote:I'm not sure why but, for some reason, I thought we'd have more guitar players here than we do.

I had one of those for years. We must have gone to the same decorator!

My wife plays flute. I bought her a brand new Jupiter, which I understand is a pretty decent model, for about $400. Maybe it's time to take up the flute.
