DD suggested that a few of us have a chili cook-off smackdown at one of the Brunchgates.
wilson, K68, you interested?

I would definitely be interested, but I only have the two dates when I'm planning on the games: Oct 24 and Nov 28. I'm hesitant about both, to be honest. Oct 24 is still in the middle of exam preparations for me (less than a month prior), and pulling off the trip to Durham and back will be a feat in itself. Then, I'm hesitant about the later date because it's just two days after Thanksgiving. Then again, we gotta eat, and chili could be a good change of pace from turkey and leftovers and whatnot, especially on a late November day.
So there, I guess I've convinced myself. My vote is for Nov. 28.

That's a great idea! I am really eager for a large sampling of my chili as I'm preparing for the South Carolina Chili Cook-off in April.

It that's the venue, how about we have it at a cat-free house? I nominate DD's!

We should really go all out and have it in K-ville on, say, March 5.

Cat free is a good idea. It's cold during bball season.

Let's do both. March 5 is a bit late for me, as I'd like to get some feedback on my chili so I can tweak my recipe in time for the April competition. So how about an early one and a late one. :)

So we need to decide, if the chili should be prepared beforehand or onsite.
The purist in me says it MUST be done onsite, but I recognize that presents some challenges for folks that don't have the gear. Though it seems that's a must for the March 5 event. By that I'll have my competition kitchen ready. It will support two cooks or about 40-50 quarts of chili. :-bd

The only thing happening on March 5th will be people conducting a status check, and the women's team playing in Greensboro. The 6th Duke plays the baby blues in Durham. I'd pick a day of an away game, like Jan 30th when we play Georgetown.

Yeah, I was not serious with my suggestion.

I guess we'll plan for 3/5/10 in the Queen City. You may have 3 entrants. If Lavabe sniffs this, you'll have 4. Hmm, 40-50 quarts of chili. That'll be Ozzie's share. What about the rest of us? :)) =))

Most chili cook-offs offer a prize for crowd favorite. So I'm going to be prepared.
I'm actually thinking of starting with about 20 quarts for my first competition. I'll see how that goes and then scale up accordingly.

I have a cat-free house if you're interested in doing it in Greenville.

I'll also have an entry in the contest.
