I watched the game again today, Thad did lots of things well, under tons of pressure. The recievers weren't catching, and there were at least 2 pass interference calls. While Renfree got in the endzone twice, I think Thad would have led 3 scoring drives, including the missed FG. The other ended in a fumble. Aside from his two TD's, Duke punted the rest of Sean's possessions. He played well, threw great, but he isn't the annointed one yet.CellR wrote: I'm glad Lewis is still the man. I would have been pretty disappointed if they pulled him, because I would say a majority of his woes were a result of the O-Line, and not so much his ability. Renfree just happened to join the game when the line finally got it figured out. ;)
I wish CBS Sports would get the programming schedule information correct on their release to Dish. They were reporting a replay at 6AM this morning. The Panthers were sucking it so badly that it was a pleasure to turn away, even if I knew the outcome. Nice outcome!
A key word in what Coach Cutcliffe had to say is groom. He can play Thad in games a lot while having the luxury of continuing to groom Renfree who can play as needed. Sean will be our first QB to benefit from Coach Cutcliffe's mentoring for his entire college career.
Thank you for sharing what you learn on the sidelines. Those interactions on the sidelines help the rest of us understand what the team and individual players are really like..... something which may be difficult to know from a distance.dukediv2012 wrote:I believe that this decision on Cut's part shows how great he is. Many other coaches would dangle the idea in the air for the entire week (Roy Williams-Ty Lawson's many injuries) but Cut doesn't screw around. He made a decision and is sticking with it. Thad is a GREAT QB not only because of his football skills, but also because of his leadership qualities. When Renfree scored the first TD, Thad was the FIRST player to congratulate him when he came off of the field. Thad is THE leader of this team, no one else.
One of the benefits of being on the sideline during the game is hearing the conversations between players during the game. Thad is one of the only players that speaks with people on the defense as well as the offense. He pumps up Leon Wright, Vinny Rey, and Big Vince. He is a true leader and DUKE is blessed to have him.
I truly believe that if Thad thought that Renfree was more capable to lead the team, then he would tell Cut to put Renfree in the game. That is the type of person and leader that Thad Lewis is and I glad that he is Duke's QB. I wouldn't have it any other way.
I saw this as well. Though, it was on TV. TV was showing Thad on the sidelines as if he were some fallen, incapable player that had to watch from the sidelines because he lost his ability.dukediv2012 wrote:Thad is a GREAT QB not only because of his football skills, but also because of his leadership qualities. What that jackass Strehorn (Sehorn?) was reporting and what was happening on the field were two entirely different events.captmojo wrote:I saw this as well. Though, it was on TV. We can review how the Versus commentators perform Saturday.CameronBornAndBred wrote:What that jackass Strehorn (Sehorn?) was reporting and what was happening on the field were two entirely different events.captmojo wrote:I saw this as well. I tried listening to Bob & Co., but the sound feed was badly delayed behind the video. I did tune in for the post game wrap up. One of the benefits to games broadcast on ACC Select is that they use Bob's audio as the game audio, and it's in perfect synch.Devil in the Blue Dress wrote:In addition to displaying their personal shortcomings, the CBS Sports Network commentators worked at creating a story to "liven up" the game. I'm glad ISP still has a station more or less in this region so I can hear more intelligent commentary from Bob Harris, Wes Chesson and Anthony Dilwig.
Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.dukediv2012 wrote:I believe that this decision on Cut's part shows how great he is. Thanks for sharing the info. There will be at least one CTNer in the stands on Saturday cheering Duke on to victory. I'll watch for you - I know you'll be the good looking manager on the field. I'll be the fan in Section 26, Row 2. (I think - better check those tickets.)dukediv2012 wrote:I believe that this decision on Cut's part shows how great he is. I wouldn't say I'm a certified CTNer yet (just started lurking recently), but I'll be at the game Saturday and hope to meet some other Dukies. I also have two extra tickets in the same section as DukieInKansas (mine are in row 5) if anyone knows someone who might want tickets.DukieInKansas wrote:

When Jim Sumner mentioned Coach Cutcliffe's teleconference reference to chop blocking, I was concerned about what sort of injuries would become apparent. The team is fortunate to have some of the best medical care available to treat such injuries. Just wish it wasn't needed!CameronBornAndBred wrote:I'm guessing that Vince will be playing...I'm bummed about Vernon...he was so fun last Saturday.
Thanks very much DD2.dukediv2012 wrote:Don't read too much into the VO injury... just sayin'.
Vernon worked out today, but did not practice. Game-time decision.
Hollingsworth- probable.
After listening to Golic talk about the injury reports released, I'm somewhat confident Vince will be playing Saturday.dukediv2012 wrote:Don't read too much into the VO injury... just sayin'.
