Some vibes needed

Post by Devil in the Blue Dress » September 3rd, 2009, 12:09 pm

Please send out your best vibes and prayers for my nephew.

He lives in Saint Louis. After trying various jobs for several years following college graduation, he found his niche in sales in the metal fabrication industry. At his first hire, he became the youngest in the company's history to be promoted from inside sales to outside sales and did it in the shortest time in their history. In less than a year he was the youngest promoted to supervise a region. In March he was unceremoniously laid off (his boss told him at a McDonald's drive through). Because of his volunteer work with Mardi Gras in Saint Louis, many people in the community heard about his lay off and offered all sorts of help, temporary employment, you name it. Within a month (April) he accepted a job with a small company, a competitor of his old company. In a short time there, he came up with a variety of creative ways to improve their marketing and visibility. All looked good..... then about two weeks ago he was let go again. He's actively looking for employment, seriously considering other industries less troubled than metals fabrication and steel, but is very discouraged after two lay offs in a relatively sort time. I think he's willing to relocate.... eventually wants to return to NC, do some graduate work (MBA) and develop a new career. This is a very low point for him after a meteoric rise and a promising future.

Vibes are being directed to St. Louis. :ympray:

We are beaming them towards the Arch, where they will magically be directed his way. *-:)

You all are great! I'll pass on your vibes, well wishes and prayers to him.

I just felt that I had to speak out. My nephew is one of those great kids who despite being very talented in so many ways has had to work hard to find a career and a path in life, unlike like his sister and his cousins. I know he's a fighter and won't give up, but two lay offs in less than six months is tough to take.

I recently read something that really struck me about closing doors and opening windows. Sometimes, we spend so much time looking at the closed door that we don't see the open window. Your nephew probably needs to look at the closed door for healing purposes, but then he needs to look for his open window. I know he will.

VIBES! VIBES! and MORE VIBES headed to the Gateway to the West! CTN vibes really, really do work!! Enough vibes create miracles. We'll keep 'em going until we get one! Just ask Duke PA about doors closing and PICTURE WINDOWS opening. She just ended up in a new job she loves a LOT better than the one she lost and she never would have even gone looking for it had she not been unceremoniously dumped from her old one.

Your nephew is not alone. Help him know that these layoffs have nothing to do with HIM. He's just standing on the same shifting sands that everybody else is. So he needs to stay PROUD of all he's accomplished so far. He's just getting started!

Exactly!! I am quadrupling my vibes and sending them to St. Louis and to EarlJam. They have both given so much and deserve much better. As others point out, the layoffs are pointing them in the right direction. I just wish the wait didn't have to be so incredibly uncomfortable. I did my best to be positive, but sometimes found myself in the dumps. I hope those times are few for your nephew. Things always do work out.

Vibes are a-comin'! Maybe they'll be stronger since they don't have so far to travel. Here's hoping that a great job comes his way soon!

Just got a little update. He's in good spirits and receiving unemployment compensation. He's also working part time as a sound technician for a band performing at a nearby bar, so he's got a little money coming in. (My nephew has a good singing voice and composes. He recorded a demo CD while he was in Chicago.) He's using this interval to reevaluate what he really wants to do. He's considering some new possibilities which will make direct use of his degree in psychology.

Thank you for all the vibes and kind thoughts. They're helping!

Glad to hear that he's got things going on right now. Vibes to him for the future, and making a very big decision!

Just now saw this and I have vibrations thru the roof for him. If he was in sales, is there a chance of a compensation package based on commissions only? This would, in essence, be at no cost to his employer. Also, not to be forgotten, is the route of an independent contractor. As long as he's been affiliated with the industry, he should have been able to develop some customer loyalty.

Thanks for all the vibes, advice and encouragement. He's on a plateau right now.... drawing some money while working out his next move. Taking his career in a different direction.... away from steel and metal fabrication industries. Most recent idea he's looking at is to go back to school for a masters and training to be a school guidance counselor. (His undergraduate degree from SMU is in psychology.)
