CA Fires- Los Angeles County
Yeah, the La Canada fire is getting close to me (Pasadena), as fires go. It's a town away. It's close enough that I can see the plumes of smoke as I drive in the area and someone else was driving this morning and told me they saw flames, as in THE fire. Plus you can smell the smoke outside... not good breathing weather.
It's got a long way to go before getting to me (read: I think they'd get it under control before then), which is good, but there are a lot of potential disasters waiting to happen.
Oh, and the Palos Verdes fire is in a very posh area.
Anyway, you can zoom in on the map and click on the icons and get info about certain areas. If you refresh it periodically, you can see when the Times updates it.

We had mudslides in my old neighborhood(Calabasas/Woodland Hills) and earthquakes, but the fires tended to be to the north and west of us. The number of fires recently just seems too high to me. I used to have to worry about them, after this week no longer.

Just what you need, another freekin' fire. Better stock up on marshmellows, chocolate bars and graham crackers. ;) ;)

One thing after another. Be especially careful if you should notice any leopards lying with kids.Sue71 wrote:Yeah, the La Canada fire is getting close to me (Pasadena), as fires go. It's a town away. I can't make the webcam work. Continued vibes for minimal damage and chaos.Sue71 wrote:Normally I'd say yes, but not at the moment.wilson wrote:What a great mountain.Sue71 wrote:Mt. Wilson webcam

I can't link the pic (tried- it's too big). Keep trying on the webcam. It took a few tries for it to work for me. But honestly, with how close the fire seems to be, I'm not sure how much longer it'll be running for.

The other night, the moon was orange. Wonder if that was a result of the fires. I know that has been the case before.

Mt. Wilson Observatory is very famous, and it would be ashame if it were seriously damaged. Some very famous research has occurred there, including Edwin Hubble's detection of the expansion of the universe.

Yikes! That's kind of close. Do you keep copies of your important documents in a central place in case you need to evacuate? (Just asking. . . although they advised everyone to do this when I lived in CA, I never got around to doing it or the earthquake kit, either.)

They are getting harder to see due to smoke. It appears they may have stopped updating the pictures - it still shows the 9:53 shot even when I refresh the screen.CameronBornAndBred wrote:They need more antennas.Sue71 wrote:Mt. Wilson webcam
Sue, I hope things are staying far from you. Hope they can get containment of the fire soon.
Life is good!

Re: CA Fires- Los Angeles County
We're good right now, thanks all. As soon as you step outside, it smells like a giant barbecue pit. And it's smokier (visually) than yesterday.
The fire doubled in size overnight. It's 1/4 mile from the Observatory now. Not a great situation for SoCal.

I'm vibing for ya (no wait, that sounds bad in some way! lol)
Hope you keep safe!
Why do you think CA has so many fires? Is it the underbrush laws or what have you that leads to this? Or is it just luck of the draw, a fluke, or something else beyond mans control?
