Okay...some YBT news

I've been scrambling around for the last couple days because something happened to me. I got a new job, one that is located many miles from my current location. I've kept the whole process on the DL...but I finally got the offer I was looking for and resigned on Monday. The job is a good one with a much larger insurance carrier but it is because of personal reasons that I am making this change.

But the real implication is that I am going from the Red Sox to the Reds... :(

I've told my cats and they seem indifferent...for now.

CONGRATULATIONS!! \m/

How close to Cincy will you be? Cincy's an hour north of us.

When do you start? When do you move?

Thanks all!

I'll be about 20 minutes north of downtown Cincinnati. I expect to move in early September but getting everything arranged is not going as smoothly as I would have liked so that may slip. It does put in jeopardy a visit to Duke that I have planned for Homecoming weekend.

And my ears are open for any stories some might have about transporting cats over long distance. I think I'll call it "YBT, two cats, and a car". I hope they go easy on the seats.

Re: Feline Travels

Chloe's longest car ride was around 5 hours or so. She stayed in her case the whole time (otherwise she'd try to hide under one of the front seats and not come out). She was fine. Talked a lot but I would talk back to her. Made sure she had a little water dish and a little food, though she ignored both. Also brought "her" blanket (when she was little, I bought a cheap white baby blanket to keep folded up at the bottom of her case so she knows the smell) and a stuffed toy and 1-2 furry mice (or that size toys).

Same goes for flights, though I control the water/food timing (rather than leaving it out).

Try to pet them periodically if you can reach them. Pull over if you need to. It's reassuring.

I didn't drug her for the car though I've drugged her for flights before. Flights make her REALLY anxious these days so I don't know if she'll be flying again.

Hope that helps! (Where's the damn cat smilie???)

Congratulations!!! That's awesome news.

Re Cats
I drug mine, put them in their kennels and strap the kennels in the seats so that, God forbid, I'm in an accident the kennels won't fly all over the place.

Good luck with the move!!

Wow, is it ever great to hear some good news. Congrats. When you get there go get yourself some Skyline Chili. Good stuff. And yes, that waterfront is terrific.
Love, Ima

Uh oh... the battle between Skyline and Goldstar Chili.

Good news... good zoo.
Bad news... Jerry Springer used to be mayor.
Bad news... I don't think you can get Tony Packo's there.

An hour north... off of I-75?

In prep for moving, watch plenty of WKRP!

Congrats! I'm from Columbus, but I've spent some time in Cincy. Nice city. I will warn, though, to be prepared for all Buckeyes, all the time. Think about how Boston is with the Red Sox and amplify that to 11.

If you don't mind me asking, who's the new carrier?

Congratulations on your new job! What an exciting change!

My niece is a veterinarian who advocates a natural method to make the cats relax for traveling, not drugs. If you're interested, I can get the name of the product for you or talk to your vet for recommendations.... A safe carrier for each is very important when in the car. If the cats haven't been in carriers before, set the carrier(s) out and let the cats explore them from now until the move.
