What's your favorite Chinese food item to take home?

Sweet and Sour Pork or Chicken.

Sweet and sour chicken and wimpy General Tso's chicken.

General Tso's. If done well (which it often isn't), I think it has a great balance of sweetness and spice. I realize that it's in no way an authentic Chinese dish, but neither is 95% of the rest of what's on any Chinese restaurant's menu.

General Tso, or is it Colonel Tso ,or Sesame Chicken, two egg rolls. Thank you.

Yup, if I eat it at home, I make it. I'm a chinese buffet lover, so I never leave with any.

When we do order out, I do get General Tso's a lot. Just b/c I know it'll usually be decent. I'm also a fan of chicken with black bean sauce. The little fermented black soy beans are delicious. Any noodle dish is good too.

When I lived in Durham, I loved eating at Charlie's Chinese Restaurant in Chapel Hill. (The owner is Charlie Two Shoes of WWII fame.) The Orange Beef and Orange Chicken were wonderful! Another delightful item on the menu (not strictly Chinese)is Mongolian Beef.... to die for!

My favorite is shrimp chow fun (wide rice noodles) washed down with a Tsing Tao beer. Ymmmm

There's a little Chinese place that opened up last year in my neighborhood, so it's near too. They have a really good crystal chicken, which is basically their version of General Tso's but made with all white meat (my wife can't handle dark meat, the greasiness makes her sick), plus it's a little healthier. We also get some lo mein, usually pork or chicken, some spring rolls, and some fried chicken wings. My wife usually gets some fried wontons. Ymmm...

For starters, I generally go with fried potstickers.
I'll generally go for hot&sour soup, unless I am sick. If I am sick, I'll go for wonton soup (closest thing to delivery matzah ball soup I can find).

Egg rolls. My friend Peggy Hertzberg calls them "Chinese Doughnuts." Peggy is Chinese--but look at her name. I also have a Chinese-American friend named Sue McCaskey. She was Sam's 3d grade teacher many years ago. I looked for her on the first day of school, imagining that she'd be a red-haired freckle-faced lady with that name. I was surprised when I saw her. She didn't look at all like I'd imagined her to look.

I also like crab rangoon. YUM!

One of my patients owns a Chinese restaurant and often will not let us order from the menu and just asks for some of our favorites and then has the chef (her husband) create his own dish/specialty for us.

Pot stickers...spring rolls...low mein...hot and sour soup...sweet and sour pork or chicken...fried rice...

Now I'm hungry...wondering if anyone at work wants to hit the Chinese buffet for lunch (I'm a buffet fan when it comes to Chinese food - that way I can get a little bit of lots of things...and there are two excellent buffets...one minutes from the office...the other minutes from home)

Speaking of egg rolls, I just can't look at egg rolls from a restaurant the same any more. My dad used to make pretty good ones in his wok, but I've made friends with a Vietnamese couple with a boy Sean's age. The kids are friends too. Anyway, we went over there for dinner a few times, and my friend's wife makes the MOST INCREDIBLE home made egg rolls I've ever eaten. I could make a meal just with them. They EMBARRASS anything I've ever had at a restaurant. EVER. Sometimes, they'll drop some off when she makes them, and we have an egg roll dinner. Even the kids, who can be impossible to please, LOVE them. They'll sometimes eat a little of an egg roll from a restaurant. They'll eat several of my friend's egg rolls each every time. Ymm, I need to call him. See if Dani wants to make egg rolls this week. ;)

Does your Vietnamese friend make egg rolls or spring rolls? Don't remember the distinction, but they do include different ingredients.
