Road Raging

You wanna know what really pisses me off?

People that cannot maintain a consistent speed on the highway. They'll speed past you, then slow down and merge into your lane because there's a car coming up fast behind them. Their, now slower, speed forces me to either slow down or pass them. If you're on a two-lane highway this can absolutely ruin your drive. It's a bit more tolerable on the 3, 4, and 5-lane highways because there's more room to maneuver. But I still see it happen and it just drives me crazy.

Folks, learn to maintain a consistent speed, or learn to use your cruise control.

I use my cruise control almost all the time. Even when I'm only in the 40's.

What drives me nuts is when I'm on a two lane road (one lane each way), and I get stuck behind somebody going below the speed limit, who then SPEEDS up so I can't pass him safely in the passing zones. That drives me CRAZY. If I know somebody wants to pass me, I'll slow DOWN in the passing zones and even hug the line (like in NASCAR) so he can see around me better.

I hate it when, on a three-lane highway, someone will ride the middle lane going under the speed limit. Get the fuck to the right! Now there are all sorts of people passing them on both sides, which is uber dangerous. These people are just so timid and are afraid of being in the right lane with the on ramps.

If I related some of my road rages, I'd wager Coach, the other mod and CB&B would have some choice PM's and/or comments for me...

Are you wanted for crimes related to your road raging?

A friend of my family's was. He spent a week in jail for it. Some guy cut him off and then flipped him the bird. He was in his big pickup truck with his wife (he's an ex-con in construction). He pulled around the guy and threw a full big gulp cup on the guys windshield. The guy called the cops and got him arrested for assault.

While I disagree with your friend's behavior (though don't blame him) I gotta say that a week in jail is utter, total, complete, 100%, bona fide bullshit of a punishment if I've ever heard one.

Well, like I said, he was an ex-con. Had done a few years in the poke for various things, mostly related to his temper. Maybe that's why they were hard on him.

I suppose, given his history, that might be an appropriate punishment. Maybe a more-fitting and effective punishment would've been 3 months of anger management courses.

A couple years after I graduated, a driving instructor at Jordan High had one of his students chase down a car that cut them off. Then the instructor got out and punched the offending driver. While he was teaching!! Of course he was fired.

How's about when some dingbat rides your bumper and then passes you and slows down, all free and easy now that he has gotten ahead of you. My kids learned some very colorful, descriptive language as we motored from ballet to baseball to piano, etc, etc, in the olden days. [-x

Ditto to pretty much all of the above.
I also hate people who drive just fast enough to stay right in your blind spot, people who don't use turn signals on surface streets, and people whose speed fluctuates wildly on the interstate (already mentioned).
Finally, people who blow up behind you and generally act like dickweeds, and then when you finally get them past you so they can irritate someone else, you see that they have a Jesus fish on their car. Or those fucking infernal decals signifying every parent, child, dog, cat, and fish in the household...the ones that stretch 2/3 of the way across the rear windshield of their Ford Valdez, I mean Excursion. The one that they're driving 90 mph. 4 feet off your back bumper.
I need to stop.

I know him! He was a pretty good baseball coach.
