With an afternoon game we'll be serving up an All-American style cookout lunch.
I always love experimenting with how I cook, and this game will be no different. In the Spring, I bought a Blackstone style griddle, which I use all the time at home. Julie LOVES how burgers turn out on it. They are far juicier and much tastier than one cooked on a grill grate. Think of a very large and well seasoned cast iron skillet, and that's what our lunch is going to be prepared on.
For this TG, I'm bringing the griddle cooking plate (the large cast iron surface) to use under the grill hood for the burger patties. I guarantee a mouth watering experience.

While we will likely attend the game, we have some obligations in Raleigh that mean we may not make it to Durham until close to game time, and miss tailgate.

Covid and eye surgery have kept me from the first two tailgates, but I plan to be there Saturday! There will be two or three of us: Kathleen and I and hopefully Tom.

Talk to Chris. He has the only extra pass I had (it's Tim's if he shows up). If not call Chris on his cell as you get near the entrance and he'll bring the pass to you.

Well, this sucks. Kathleen is sick, and I’m not yet able to drive, so once again I will miss the tailgate. I must be snakebit.

Most of y'all missed this moment.

We were sitting under the shady tent, watching the game. Well everyone else was, it was halftime and I was falling asleep in my chair, when a commotion wakes me up.

Someone stole the rum cake!!! Not just a slice, but the whole damn cake! Our tent member Kim saw this and took off running after this woman walking off with our cake, and a bag of our chips.

Upon getting confronted, she said "I'm a Duke student, I go here, I can take it". I shit you not.
Thanks to Kim the cake was saved from the self-entitled elitist, and dessert was saved.

Hats off to Lee Ann Dean for making a cake so good that it's worth going to Duke jail for.

Totally delicious -- the entire spread -- the coleslaw, potato salad, etc. ! I asked Chris how he seasoned the burgers -- they were so delicious! He told me that the seasoning by now was totally baked into his grill. You grilling aficionados likely knew this already, but I found it a fun fact.
