Duke Vs UVA and not Ian, 10/1 – 7:30 KO Social Discussion Thread

Right now there is a storm with the frequent pre-named designation of "Invest 98L" out there. It's far off, but at the same time it's very likely to become a hurricane, and I'm mindful of it. There are so many variables in play that of course it's not possible to know where it will be next weekend.

That being said, it's also not impossible that it's squarely over central/eastern NC.

This is a look from two models, the GFS and the Euro.
Go GFS!

Here’s hoping it’s not our THIRD hurricane game! :9f:

From the weather service advisory today.

3. Ian is expected to be a major hurricane in the eastern Gulf of
Mexico during the middle of the week, but uncertainty in the
long-term track and intensity forecasts is higher than usual
.
Regardless of Ians exact track and intensity, there is a risk of
dangerous storm surge, hurricane-force winds, and heavy rainfall
along the west coast of Florida and the Florida Panhandle by the
middle of the week.

Want to be a true die hard Duke Football Fan?
Be there during what Mother Nature brings.

It's becoming a badge of honor. (And a statistical oddity.) Duke home games during a tropical event; put it on your calendar.

PS. Sorry to all the people that I joked with about during last game that the weather was so perfect that it meant our next one would be a hurricane.

Along with the abbreviated menu, I'm making some other modifications for game day. The big TV will be replaced by my 27" monitor. Tables will be reduced from three to two, with the table cloths staying nice and dry at home. I haven't talked to Mike Briggs (Omega's chef) yet, but knowing their history during storms, they likely won't be there and their tents will be empty.
That is if their tents are even setup. I've got no doubt that Duke will soon email those on Blue Devil Alley asking if they are planning on showing up. No sense in them spending hours in the rain to set up vacant spots. Our 20' tent will be making an appearance, and if BDA is as barren as I expect it to be, I'll probably put it up in the parking lot.

Since I'm not actually doing anything other than cooking hotdogs and reheating BBQ, I won't be showing up to get wet until 3PM.

All smart moves. I'll stand under a tent, drink a beer or two and eat in the rain but won't be there if it's raining sideways and unsafe. I *think* Mrs. dd will join me :ymdevil: :ymhug: .

If anyone is interested in sitting out of the rain Saturday night, my seat is under the overhang. Section 28, row pp, seat 15. I'll be in Charlotte at a wedding. AW 😁

Green family still plans to attend but obviously we are watching the weather and will make final decision Saturday morning. Current forecast at weather.com says “light rain” Saturday evening.

Rain suits are ready.

That's my plan as well, and I don't expect to know for sure until late Friday night. My concern isn't for the rain in the parking lot, it's the weather conditions during the 2 hour drive while towing the trailer.
An earlier and more western Ian is better for all of us.

Yes, that's the site I've been following along with a local one here. I'm becoming more optimistic that the game time weather will be fine, as well as the drive. In fact, I'm holding out hope that I'm able to arrive earlier than I was initially planning. :D
Fingers crossed. As we know, things can change fast. :wizard: :wizard:

Even with the forecast changing, I'm still keeping things simplified with the smaller tv setup and reduced tables. But at least hopefully I'll only be setting up in the rain and not packing up in it.
With the lighter rain outlook too, the 20' tent will probably be swapped out for a 10' one, and that's so I can stay dry in my kitchen.

Thanks to everyone that came out! Some new faces in the rain even. Very nice meeting Wayne and eating his raw fish. I'm still alive to testify that it was tasty!
