Good question - I was wondering the same thing. I have seen Duke do this a few times and then saw someone on another team. I just did some googling and it seems like something you do after a dunk, mainly when you are dunking on someone. I guess it isn't seen as showing the other guy up, though I'm not sure.

I guess it's something like patting yourself on the back without having to actually reach your own back? Bless their creative hearts.
