Football Off Season discussion

Aaron Young has entered the transfer portal - again. He did so at the end of 2018 but ended up returning to Duke. He is obviously not happy with his current situation so I wish him the best.

Bowl season is painful but I draw strength from the Sports Fan prayer - next season is going to be better!

Duke plays N.C. State at Carter-Findlay next season. Dave Doeren is busy in this early off season making changes to his staff on the defensive side. He has hired a new Defensive Coordinator and a couple position coaches. Time will tell if the changes are upgrades but the status quo is out the door.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. Hope Coach Cut reads this..... :9f:

N.C. State has hired a new Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach. Kurt Roper, who coached QBs in 2019, will be the Running Backs Coach.

Dave Doeren is making sweeping changes on his staff.

The jury is still out on whether or not the Blue Devils will make a change at offensive coordinator. Zac Roper endured a season filled with criticism. Any staff changes likely won’t be made until after the coaches convention in January. At the very least, however, David Cutcliffe will likely take a long look at the playbook and try to find a way to freshen things up.
So he's saying there's a chance Roper could be gone! :9f:

The waiting til the coaches convention thing drives me crazy. And even though I want to see Roper gone, I don't see how waiting is kind to him if he's going to be looking for a new job. Hires have been being made for a month now.

Brittain Brown has entered the transfer portal which really, really sucks!

That totally sucks. Hopefully he is doing like Young last year and tossing his name out there but ultimately returns.

OL Coach Jim Bridge has resigned. Hallelujah!

Now Coach Cutcliffe has to secure a proven OL Coach who can step in and make an immediate impact.

Roper Resignation has a nice unsung ring to it. Just sayin'.

Jaime Newman is transferring to Georgia. I’m glad he will no longer be in Winston-Salem. The man is a beast.

Wow. Georgia. The rumor here among the Wake faithful was Oregon. I wish him success, now that he’s away from us. :9f:

As a rationale for why I am always going on and on about the importance of establishing the running game, I offer up Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans in the ongoing NFL play-offs:

Titans 28, Ravens 12: Henry - 30 rushes for 195 yards. Titans throw three TD passes in the game.

Titans 20, Patriots 13: Henry - 34 rushes for 182 yards and a TD.

Duke needs a new OC who understands the importance of establishing the running game, and an OL Coach who can teach effective blocking fundamentals and schemes.

Run to set-up the pass!!! Run to set-up the pass!!! Run to set-up the pass!!!

Today’s internet rumor is Greg Frey will be hired as OL Coach. It is also rumored he will be the run game coordinator.

Frey has coached at FSU, Michigan, Indiana and others. Seems like a solid get.

IF Cut makes any significant changes and smart hires on the offensive side, I wonder if it will prompt any potential transfers to stick around.
