Duke vs. Army

Vegas has Duke favored by 13.5 points with the Over/Under at 46. I'm predicting a 31-17 Duke victory. Let's discuss some football!

Here is a Army blog with some practice and scrimmage information:

The biggest challenge Army will face is replacing QB Ahmad Bradshaw. Whoever starts for Army will be inexperienced, which is not a good situation facing Duke's elite defense. Let's Go Duke! Keelhaul the Mules. B-) It is time to make a point...last year was a fluke!

I like your score, that sounds pretty reasonable.

I like that we are starting the year with a game that will tell us a lot about this team, for better or worse. Hopefully for very good!

Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe announced Friday the naming of Joe Giles-Harris, Ben Humphreys, Daniel Jones and Johnathan Lloyd as team captains for the 2018 season. The four returning lettermen were elected by their teammates.
This is the second consecutive year Jones has been chosen as a captain while the other three are first-time selections.

Jim Sumner's Football Notes:

Jeremy McDuffie still is not 100 percent healthy.

Freshman WR Jake Bobo was injured Sunday morning. He still might play. T.J. Rahming, Johnathan Lloyd and Aaron Young will be starting receivers with Chris Taylor in the mix. That's three seniors and a junior (Young). It speaks volumes that Scott Bracey hasn't been mentioned throughout practice/scrimmage reports and now these notes.

Defense will show multiple combinations.

The team believes they have a strong game plan for Army.

Recruiting stars don't guarantee stardom. Only hard work does that.

Before the Saturday morning quarterbacking begins, it is my desire to go on record listing five things I want to see Friday night. Duke winning the game is obvious so it will not be one of the five listed:

1. Solid Special Teams play. No blocked punts or FGs, missed extra points, muffed punt catches, kick-offs out of bounds, etc...
2. A dominate performance by the defense. Our defense is set up to be elite this season so it is "Show the College Football World" time.
3. Tight Ends really involved in the offensive scheme. TE is arguably the deepest most talented offensive position so us them.
4. Utilize depth on both sides of the ball. With our talent advantage, Army should be exhausted in the 4th quarter. Play lots of players.
5. Win the turnover battle - create some and don't commit any.

I'm a script fan. Also love to see us wear blue! (and not black) :happy-bouncyblue: :duke:

I want our offense to really test the Army D. In that, I mean that I want to see an equal amount of passing and running, and I want to see some of those passes be over 15 yards, and of course be caught.

Results:

1. Special teams were better than solid they were very good.
2. Defense held Army to under 200 yards rushing.
3. Tight Ends were not involved in the offense other than blocking - 1 catch by a TE.
4. I was surprised Army rallied in the 3rd quarter but we outscored them 10-0 in the 4th.
5. Check. Duke was +1 on turnovers.

I'm happy with the team's performance in Game 1.

Hoping that is more because of our defense and not because Army elected to air it out so often. But, yes, I was happy with that number.
