Greetings all,
First off, a tip o' the cap to the Duke Football team. That was a helluva effort and I liked their fight. Didn't go our way but, that's life.

Secondly, what a fun tailgate! The absolutely perfect weather. Even the sub-par food Chris prepared was kinda okay. My always excellent, of course, dishes, manners, looks and charm. I also had perfect dental hygiene. But, seriously, a really fun time.

So, final tailgate versus the Heels on Thursday night. Another great day is predicted weather-wise 68 (20C) will be the high but, by game time it will be around 52 (11C).

From what we've learned most classes are going to be done by 3PM. They're gonna close the Card lot around noon-1PM (only allowing pass-outs w/exception of b'ball players and, hopefully, Chris and I). So, hopefully everybody else can hope to get into the the area without great difficulty.

The menu is gonna be full-on hard-core. We're teaming up with the Omega/Briggs team to do one BIG ASS TAILGATE®!
We'll start having food ready around 5ish with everything out by 6:00PM. Here's what we're thinking:

TBCC/Briggs (+3)
Appetizers: ABTs, Wings, Costcos.
Main courses: Roasted pig, sausages & peppers, fried-fish, 1/3 pound burgers w/homemade buns.
Sides: Fresh-cut French fries, Bacon-Ranch Potato Salad, Cole Slaw.
Desserts: Something, something, something. Will depend on how much a extra-time I have.

There will be 2 of us bearing delicious, home-baked brownies, several small denominations of US currency and beers to share/trade.

We dropped off the grill, fryer, and the tables tonight. We are planning to get to campus at 3 to start cooking. (Doing some prep here at Chez TNT in the morning.)

Party of one. I'll be there as close to 5 as possible. The cooler will be well stocked and the jar will be fed. AW.

Tom and I will be there as close to five as possible.

Rivalry day is finally here and Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium is ready for a capacity crowd in front of a nationally televised audience. All gameday parking lots will open at 5:00 p.m. With heavy traffic expected, fans are strongly encouraged to allow plenty of time to get to the stadium. Once you arrive, stadium gates open at 5:30 p.m. All fans are asked to be in your seats no later than 7:00 p.m. for pregame celebrations.

7:10 p.m. - Duke Marching Band Takes The Field

7:15 p.m. - Duke Senior Day Ceremony

7:25 p.m. - Duke Team Entrance - You will not want to miss this one-of-a-kind team entrance. Please be aware that the Duke team entrance will include stadium lighting effects, including blackout and pulsating effects. If you have any medical related questions, please visit our EMS locations behind Section 4, 20, and 28.

Wonderful to have all these plans/special effects but when will they gain some common sense and do intelligent things like open parking lots an hour or two earlier to allow this mass of people some additional time to arrive and get situated. *&^%ing idiots.

Two years ago they disseminated all the same information but I pulled into a public parking lot at 3:45 with no problem. I hope to do that again today. We shall see. I plan to be at tailgate by 4 pm. If not, like everyone else, I'll be there when I get there.

I hope that Duke does not host Thursday night games in the future. I think they have made it very clear they are not interested in making them the amazing experience they could and should be, in fact they strive to make them a hassle on fans. If you are going to make it burdensome to attend the game, then don't host it.

I wonder if the difference is public vs ID lots.

After much soul-searching and thought, I have decided not to come tonight.

Physically, I am just not up for fighting the traffic, finding parking, toting a chair and a cooler, and sitting in the elements for several hours. Emotionally, I'm not up for being at WW in case we lose.

I will be in front of the television and (most likely) in Section 21 cursing at the refs and the sheep and anyone else who needs cursing.

The people of the nasty blue can go to hell.

We're not going to make the trip today.

I do not relish the thought of driving through all of the Triangle workday traffic, nor do I wish to arrive back home at o'dark thirty.

The game is on television. I ran home at lunch and started slow-cooking a beef stew. We're going to sit around the big screen and watch as much of the game as we can stand. There won't be any long security lines to wait in, no crazy stadium rules to follow, and no Tarholes to deal with. Also, my house is warm, and I can change into my jammies at halftime.

Last week, we had a row full of loud, obnoxious Hokies in front of us. I would have thought that Duke wouldn't sell its seats within the Iron Dukes section to the visiting team, but I was wrong.

I'm weary. I'm tired of watching my team lose.

We'll miss the tailgate--especially the YUMMY FOOD and our friends, but the Duke game day experience has devolved into something that I just don't recognize or enjoy.
