Such a tragic loss at an early age.

When we went to the Final Four in 1989, our part of the Duke group stayed in the same hotel as the Tennessee women's team. The women's tournament was being played in Tacoma and the men's tournament was being played in Seattle. As most of you recall, Duke lost in the first national semi-final game. We saw the Tennessee team, players and coaches a lot that weekend. They were a very classy bunch. It was a very organized operation. We began pulling for the Tennessee women when the Duke men lost. The Vols won the women's tournament that year, so we had some celebrating going on at our hotel. Since that encounter with the Tennessee women's team, I've always admired Coach Summit and her teams.

My heart goes out to all of her players, her staff and to her son.

I wanted to play for Pat Summitt when I was in high school. She did so much for women's sports. She was a shining light to many young women and will sorely be missed.

RIP.
