How was your commute?

I left the parking garage at 2:30 pm as normal today. It took me over 2.5 hours to make it home, normally a 20-25 minute commute. After sitting still on I-664S for over an hour, traffic started to move. Unfortunately, it started to move because all vehicles were being forced to take the last exit prior to the Monitor-Merrimack Memorial Bridge and Tunnel, so I had to backtrack through Newport News to U.S. 17 and the James River Bridge...they say a picture is worth a thousand words:

I think the owner of the boat had the worst "commute".
Mine was fine but once the leaves fall off the trees, I should be able to see my house from my office window. I do have a great commute.

Ugh, Bob.
Lots of people in the courthouse want to know how to get around Tidewater without going over a high-rise bridge or going through a tunnel. One of the reasons I like being out here is my commute may be long, but I am almost never sitting still.

Do you tell them to buy a helicopter? As you well know, bridges and tunnels are a way of life here.

I sent one across the Smithfield Ferry, on a day where the river was VERY choppy.
Suddenly the bridge didn't seem so bad.

My commute has doubled since moving here to San Antonio 3 years ago. Used to take me 22 minutes, now it is 44 minutes. I'm debating moving to a different location in the city. Those 40 additional minutes per day that are being spent in my car are much better utilized doing something else.

Sometimes the dogs get in my way going from my kitchen in to my office.
It can take me up to 40 seconds if I have to go through the living room to avoid them.
It is hell.

I walked today. I think it was actually faster than driving. The crosswalk lights were very cooperative.

I really hate that for you, Windsor. I hope you can find a shorter way to get to work.

I drive an average of 2 hours each way because I am contracting with the only ethical mental health agency in eastern NC. I look at my drive time as my time. NPR in the mornings, iPod or satellite radio in the evenings. I do lots of daydreaming and general thinking. It works for me.

Too funny and much the same here only I have no real work to get to so there is no hurry except to beat Pippi to the recycle bin before she chews everything to bits!

I also like the long drive to work. Podcasts are my lifeline, and I have time to think. Plus, I like to be away from the Varnish Zone in the evenings and on the weekends.

For me it is CNBC on satellite radio in the morning and NPR on the drive home. When I had a 10 minute drive both ways(2 years in Boston, 3 years in Cincinnati) the drive was too short and I didn't hear what was going on in the world. 20 minutes both ways seems about right, 30 minutes borderline, and 40 minutes too long.

That's like a horror story in the neighborhood. I love going back to Va. Beach and Norfolk area to visit but I don't love the traffic. My commute now is the best. I'm retired and loving it.
