I hope when the fuse burns down it is a more like this
than this
than this
All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost.

Make sure you read the exhibits. Here is a lovely email, for example (emphasis mine)....
Hi Debby,
Yes, a D will be fine; that's all she needs. I didn't look at the paper
but figured it was a recycled one as well, but I couldn't figure from where!
Thanks for whatever you can do.

I am debating whether to fix a bowl of popcorn and read the allegations and supporting documentation here, or if I should wait until I get home and pop open a bottle of wine to enhance my enjoyment.

Wait until you get home. If there are other developments between now and then, you can include them in your perusal.lawgrad91 wrote:Make sure you read the exhibits. Here is a lovely email, for example (emphasis mine)....

Re: The fuse is lit
It will be March 2016 before penalties are announced. I am going on record now and stating the banners (2005/2009) are not coming down. The penalties are going to be harsh but forward looking. I expect a multiseason post season ban and loss of scholarships for basketball. Football is tougher to predict becaue they have already been punished once.
$64K question: when will Coach Williams retire? I say before the 2016-17 season begins.

I agree with you, Bob. They always punish current and future players rather than the folks who actually broke the rules, All ill-gotten gains should be withdrawn. But, that ain't how it works.

Well, in all fairness, Ol' Roy has been known to walk off the court with 14 seconds remaining before the game is over, leaving the walk-ons on the court.windsor wrote:...and from the Twitter feed "Carolina Meltdown"

The OP thinks, and I agree, that the University of Illinois should sue UNC for monetary losses when the heels won the NC over them using illegal players.

Re: The fuse is lit
After reading the accusations as outlined on DBR, I fear you are correct. It appears as though they intentionally stayed away from calling out the men's basketball program, which means the banners stay. It seems as though the large number of AFAM majors on the team in the early 2000s would bring some attention to the team, but I fear it will not. Time will reveal.YmoBeThere wrote:I would like to see a nice ka-boom but fear the fuse will fizzle.

The fuse is not fizzling. Wait for the SACS accreditation report.ArkieDukie wrote:After reading the accusations as outlined on DBR, I fear you are correct. I expect the Helms banner will stay. Other than that, who knows what else will happen?

Re: The fuse is lit
According to Stephen, they get off with no repercussions because the athletes did not receive monetary benefits and only monetary benefits can be retroactively punished. I hope this is not true. If so, what is the purpose of the NCAA? What is purpose of college athletics? What is there to stop colleges and universities from covering up academic fraud by student athletes? Fuck unc.

My memory is probably wrong, but I don't think Penn State players received monetary benefits.DukePA wrote:According to Stephen, they get off with no repercussions because the athletes did not receive monetary benefits and only monetary benefits can be retroactively punished. Re: The fuse is lit
I don't think the NCAA spent 9 months investigating (and re-investigating) this and then serving Cheater University with a 59 page NOA accompanied by 732 pages of supporting evidence, including the dreaded phrase "loss of institutional control," so they could reprimand them. Syracuse, f$u, Wichita State, Minnesota, Georgia Tech and perhaps Purdue received varying sanctions including post season bans, loss of scholarships, fines, recruiting restrictions in the last decade or two for much shorter duration scandals with far fewer numbers of student-athletes involved. They (unfortunately) won't get the death penalty but I can't imagine that the most serious wording of LOIC would involve only minor penalties. Lavabe and I, along with a lot of other interested parties, anxiously await the SACS statement/release on June 11.DukePA wrote:According to Stephen, they get off with no repercussions because the athletes did not receive monetary benefits and only monetary benefits can be retroactively punished.
