Computer alert noise

Post by Ima Facultiwyfe » March 23rd, 2015, 11:02 am

My Apple laptop keeps making a little sound at me like it's trying to signal or tell me something .. only what? It's one of those little two-toned bloopy sounds that goes up and then down like "plonk-PLUNK? PLONK plunk!" kind of like its from Mars.

I"ve shut everything down and started over, but it's still doing it. I can't figure out what's generating it. Anybody know? I know it's something rudimentary because everything is working just fine.

Love, Ima :-?

Am sure Native can help can't he? If not, try quitting all the apps you have open, shut down and then start up again. I used to sell Macs & the only kind I've ever owned. HOWEVER it's been a long time since I was in the business! I'm old, remember??? :ymhug:

Native is so wrapped up in basketball and finishing up his last semester that he rarely gets back to me at the moment. Gotta give him some space right now. I'd bother him if it were an emergency.

Meanwhile, I'm thinking it has something to do with messages coming in on my iPhone. I think its trying to notify me or sync or something. When I turned off my phone, the outer space beeps on the Mac stopped. Sure wish I knew what button to push.

Ooh, ID and Pippi road trip!

Ima, wish I could be some help, but my Mac is home and I am in Richmond. If it's still giving you problems when I get home, if I can help I will be glad to try.

Maybe text messages are going to your computer?

Try:

That's a Microsoft joke. Interesting that it is beeping at the same time as mail arriving. Sounds like a notification issue triggered perhaps by a software update. My iPhone always turns on Bluetooth after I update.

iMessages (texts, if you will, from iPhone to iPhone) are transmitted via the internet if possible and can be received by any Apple device you have or sent in the same manner if it is connected to the internet and is signed in through your AppleID.

Yeah, what she said. I routinely have texts appearing on my iPad that were sent from my iPhone. I didn't set it up that way initially, but a setting changed with one of the updates.

Guests for lunch today. But as soon as I have some time to sit and fiddle, I will take all suggestions to the max as far as investigation is concerned. Interestingly, though, this doesn't happen with my regular Mac. Just the Macbook. Everything syncs.

Now, back to my aspic.

VI-OH-LA!!!! I THINK I FOUND THE BLOOPY NOISE! (Unless it comes back in the next half hour....in which case the sound you will hear from wherever you are will be me yelling out expletives)

I think it was coming from my little exterior Bose speaker, telling me "Hey, I'm still turned on, ya know. :poke: Don'tcha want me to play something?"
