Mark Buehrle, starting pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, threw a perfect game last Thursday. Tonight, he is once again perfect through 5 innings. He has retired 43 batters in a row, a Major League Baseball record.
Simply amazing.

Well, he just lost his perfect game and his no-no on consecutive batters with two outs in the 6th. But still...dayum.

They said this morning that he'd retired the last batter in his last start, plus the perfect game, plus the guys in the next game, giving him 45 consecutive, a major league record by 4. I wonder if they could count the BB as 46 without a hit? I wonder if that's also a record, or not?

Nope; Johnny Vander Meer threw two no-hitters in a row in 1938.

Cool, thanks. I tried to look it up, but everything on the first several pages would only talk about the most retired record.
