Medical School!

I am very very very very excited to share with all of you, who have had an important role in my life the past five or six years, that I was just accepted to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine for their MD/MPH program!!! I'm in shock. (But still waiting for six more interview schools, including DUKE MED, to get back to me!) Could I cheer for The U??!

Of course you can! Duke will naturally always be 1st, but you could cheer for the U, especially when they play the heels. Congratulations on your acceptance. You're going to rock medical/public health school no matter where you end up! Sooo proud of you, kiddo!

Our youngest daughter (T-'11, cheerleader) is an MS3 at unc, but she will never, ever cheer for the cheaters.

Our son (T-'07) is an MS3 at WFU, making him devildeac2, and he can cheer for the Deacs anytime he likes. Except tonight .

Any area you are leaning towards?

I'm leaning pretty heavily towards Duke or UNC if I get in. I had really, really great experiences there on interview days. Columbia is definitely up there, too.

Hmm... is Emory MD/MPH on the list?

Emory MD/MPH is on one of the lists -- sadly it isn't yet on the interview list! I haven't heard anything back from them. I think I would love the school, though, as well as the chance to work with the inner-city clinical population at Grady.

Haha...I didn't mean geographic area. Cardiology? (I know a couple!) Ear, nose and throat guy? How about podiatry? Duke can always use a good toe guy!

Ahhh! Something likely in the wide realm of OBGYN, Internal Med (I know, HUGE range here), or General Surgery... (EM as an outside contender if I love it). But then again, they tell you to keep all of your options open, which is what I'll be doing!

My dream would be to have a joint appointment in the medical school and Global Health department of a university *ahem* duke *ahem* I think that's the best way to sustainably practice global and community health as a physician.



Now that I think about it... I do love kids! Throw peds in there, too.

No, he's been accepted to Miami for med school. It's his safety school. Still waiting to hear from Duke and the other, minor players.
