What A Crappy Couple Of Days

Post by colchar » July 25th, 2009, 1:12 pm

On Thursday my roommate's brother (used to be my roommate as well, we've been friends for years, and he lives eight doors from my roommate and I) heads out to the garage to get on his Harley and discovers that it is leaking gas. Last night my roommate's pickup truck died on his way to work. This morning, after taking him to meet the tow-truck, we came home and, after we got out of my car in our driveway, I noticed that coolant was spewing out from under my engine. Fuck. What a shitty start to the weekend. As a grad student, this expense is the last thing I need right now. Hopefully a buddy of ours (a former roommate of mine and a friend of theirs from high school) will make it over today or tomorrow because he is a diesel mechanic and, providing the problem with my car is a small one (I'm hoping that it it just a hose or a leak in the reservoir), he should be able to fix it right in our driveway.

I hope everyone else's weekend is going better than mine.

Mine is, thanks for the vibes!

Seriously though, that sucks. Hope it gets fixed quickly, and your next weekend turns into the best ever.

Mine's not but still sorry to hear about your misfortunes, too. :(

I'm recovering from diarrhea that I caught in the middle of the last set of surveys. Diarrhea while you're camping stinks. So does hiking home with it, especially when you run out of toilet paper.

Back to the original point of this thread though; I totally feel your pan, colchar. I was forced to buy a new car (well, new to me) last summer, decidedly not compatible with my meager budget. Stateside vibes.

I can recall days in grad school just like yours, colchar.

I believe everyone deserves the services of a NASCAR pit crew, just once in one's life. :D

In fact, after looking at this thread and the other one about what a great year some folks were having, I considered starting the "This Year Sucks So Far" thread but did not want to be the dark cloud in every one else's silver lining... :(

That happened to me about two years ago when some idiot talking on her cellphone rear-ended me at a stoplight and totaled my previous car. I bought this one then and, all in all, it has been pretty good to me (only one major repair job since I bought it) so I can't really complain too much.

I take I shouldn't make any comments about you having the runs while hiking ;)

What we earn as grad students is scandalous.

Thankfully my parents, when I called to tell them what had happened, immediately said that, if my former roommate can't come over and fix it himself, I should just go ahead and take it into a local auto shop on Monday morning, tell them to do whatever is needed to fix it, and then to come home and call my parents with the phone number of the shop and that they would then call and tell them to just put it on their Visa card. Obviously, I'll have to pay it back at some point but at least it won't be coming out of my pocket right now.

I have been reasonably fortunate so far this year other than an options trade that went awry.

Colchar, sending you vibes that things turn around. :ymhug: You know, I'm really glad your folks stepped up for you. Mine did for me after the fire- my mom came back 1 week after she'd left just to hang out for a week and keep me from becoming a basket case (well it worked for a few days at least).

Go ahead. Life around me has been just peachy, so far this year. I've no where to go but up.
Hell, I could spell out too much, starting it myself.
Your idea. Your honor. Do it.
