Elon @ Duke. 6PM Kick-off. Menu & Attendance.
Posted: August 24th, 2014, 12:31 pm
Well, here we are again, most of August is in the rear-view mirror so that must mean it's time, once again, for some Duke Tailgating...wait...I mean football! Yeah, football is what I meant!
FOOTBALL!
Ahhh yes. Duke Football. Coastal Division Champions! Hell, we even have expectations to live-up to this year! That's pretty damn okay in my book.
Most of you know the drill but, for those of you just joining us, let me 'splain:
We put a great deal of effort into making sure that everything about the TBCC Tailgate is first-class and, worthy of our prime location. We do this not to make a profit, but because we love Duke, Duke Football and, hosting a great tailgate. Our goal is to make BDA the premier tailgate spot in the ACC, the TBCC Tent the top spot on BDA and, the TBCC Tailgate a fantastic game-day experience. But, the reality is with such a low, per-person donation average and, our costs increasing across the board, it's getting harder to maintain the variety, quantity and quality to which we've all become accustomed.
We understand that what drew most of us into the Duke Football experience was the affordability. By joining together we're able to enjoy what is arguably the best tailgate spot on BDA for a relative pittance per season. And, while it's true some of the membership fees help to off-set the cost of the food, there's not enough surplus. Besides whatever surplus is generated from selling tent-shares should be kept in reserve for whatever the future may hold (expansion tent, fee increases, etc.).
We're not expecting folks to donate $50 bucks per-person but, we would appreciate it if the donation was more commensurate with the overall experience. Put another way- where else in the ACC, or D1 college football for that matter, could one tailgate with family and/or friends only 200 paces from the stadium entrance, all while enjoying a copious spread of high-quality, freshly-prepared foods for only $7.67 per-person*?
(*Based on party of four- five-dollars for food and $2.67 [$10.71/4) tent fee.)
I'll close by stating that this an issue we'd have preferred to not raise. It's been one we've discussed for many, many months in the hopes we'd stumble upon some better formula. We've hoped that donations would, somehow, increase, but the magic never happened. So we're left with no other option but to appeal to everyone's better nature. Perhaps in the future we can implement some structural changes that will eliminate the need for the Tip Jar altogether but, for now, the Tip Jar, and your generosity, is our best answer.
Okay, back to the Elon game- For this tailgate we’re gonna’ try to serve the main courses around 3:30-4pm. Of course, they'll be stuff to eat all day long- as you can see below, so come early and stay late, we do!

As always I'll keep updating this post with more weather and attendance information as we move through the week.

Most of you know the drill but, for those of you just joining us, let me 'splain:
- This thread is where you can inform others of your intentions to attend and with how many guests. You can also post here if you would like to contribute a dish (or dishes) to the gastronomic orgy which is the TBCC tailgate or, just take the simple route and generously feed the Tip Jar.
- Please, only post items you're bringing to share. If you're just bringing beverages and/or food for you and your party then there's no need to post that in this thread.
- Because we need to insure we're bringing/preparing enough food for all whom attend, if your plan is to just donate $, please make your intentions (and the number in your party) known as soon as possible.
- If you are bringing food that needs "grill time" (i.e. to be reheated/cooked), make that information known in your post.
