A great start to 2016 with a committment from 4 Star Wide Receiver Scott Bracey (6'2" 190). ESPN lists Bracey as the #32 ranked player in the Class of 2016:

This is enormous news. I never thought I would see the day that a young man with scholarship offers like these would come to Duke. Welcome, Scott Bracey!

I don't have a name to offer up here, but Coach Cutcliffe had a 3:45 appointment with a big time recruit yesterday afternoon and I was told it was another 2016 4* wide receiver. I've also read some speculation it was a running back but my source was adamant it was a WR.

2016 RB Elijah Deveaux (Charlotte Christian School) will announce his Top 5 at 5:30 today. Duke is expected to make the cut. Deveaux is a 4* on ESPN.

Landing this guy would be nice, especially seeing as our 2015 RB recruiting efforts have failed to yield fruit so far. With Jela Duncan returning in 2015, we actually do not need an RB in the 2015 class; however, a 2015 class with zero RBs means we definitely need two or three in 2016.

Deveaux Top 5: Duke, GT, NCSU, Pitt, WF
He listed the schools in alphabetical order.

OLD NEWS: I forgot to post in this thread about the verbal from 4* TE Mark Birmingham. We now have three 4* commits.
NEW NEWS: 4* QB Brandon McIlwain will be in attendance at the Carolina game tomorrow night. He is #51 overall on the ESPN300 list and the #2 Dual Threat QB:
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/footb ... n-mcilwain
It would be really, really great to sign this guy.

Based on my evaluation of the roster, there appears to be ~ 20 slots available in 2016. This number could grow by 1 or 2 to 21 or 22 based on unknowns such as a career ending injury (I knocked on the side on my head while typing that) or an unexpected departure.
Anyway, 20 is a solid ballpark number to keep in mind as we track 2016 recruiting efforts.

There almost always seems to be a few redshirt juniors that have not played much who decide to graduate and end their FB careers, too.

Yep, I factored that in to my 20: six scholarship seniors and 10 scholarship redshirt seniors open up 16 hard slots. The other four slots will open up due to redshirt juniors who decide to end their careers.

Here is an article on 4* QB Chazz Surratt:
http://recruiting.scout.com/story/15212 ... rratt?s=73
”I was at Duke last Saturday,” he said. “It was a great visit. I really liked it and I like the coaches. I enjoyed talking with (David) Cuttcliffe and (offensive coordinator) coach (Scottie) Montgomery really stood out to me. I enjoyed sitting down and talking football with them.
”They’re just really good people and I feel very comfortable around them. Coach Cutcliffe’s track record with quarterbacks is also really impressive. They told me that I’m their No. 1 priority in 2016 and that means a lot to me.
Surratt is scheduled to make a decision this Spring. Based on his talent and geography (NC kid), he could be an important domino. If he announces for Duke, it could influence other NC prospects to follow suit.

I'm not a big fan of Bleacher Report, but I'm going to post this link anyway. It says Duke is the best fit for Surratt:
