This is excellent news. Obi is a proven player who will bang against Okafor everyday in practice, which will make Okafor better in 2014/15 and Obi better in 2015/16 when he is eligible to play. I'll label this one a win - win for the players and the program.

I can't put my finger on it, but I just don't have a real good feeling about this one, bless his heart. I guess I'm the only one. I get the feeling he has lot to learn about adjusting to K's way and Duke life. I would love to be wrong. I'll get back to ya after 2 or 3 years.

What feels bad to you about this, Ima? Not criticizing, just curious. Everything I've read sounds like he's the type of kid we want (setting aside his size and basketball skills).

Totally agree. What I like best is his obvious academics first attitude. I am not sure why Duke would be a bad fit when he comes from Rice and was looking at Harvard, Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Stanford. (Sorry JD, Chris Collins, and Tommy...but you lose. :ymdevil: )

Gosh guys, I just don't. know. It's just an ominous feeling I have. Very strange. I'm probably just nuts. But something about his demeanor suggests to me that he is not as mature and wise as the guys we usually get, that he's sort of gullible, easily led. Just lacks the worldliness of most of the ones we sign. Granted, most of the ones we sign are wise beyond their years, so I'm probably just looking at an ordinary kid for a change.

Yep, he's accomplished enough in the classroom. I am glad for his sake that he's coming. I think Coach K and the rest of the guys will be very good for him. Feel free to tell me I'm silly. This is just the intuition of a grandmother of two guys who has watched them and their friends mature. I really hope that after I see more of him I just smack myself for being so silly.

He probably is naive to our way of thinking, with many of his formative years being spent in Nigeria. (The Rev Lawgrad left Africa for good in the late 1970s, and he's pretty naive still.) So probably at this point we wouldn't be impressed with his leadership abilities. Hopefully we will actually have some leadership somewhere on the team this year and he can learn and grow for a year without the pressures of ACC basketball.

After more research and further thought, I'm ready to take back my original opinion. My hat is off to his host family.
