Some of you may know Casper Holroyd, a 1948 graduate of Duke. Casper died earlier this week and his funeral was yesterday. Hayes Barton UMC (the church I belonged to in Raleigh) streamed Casper's funeral service, and the video is online here:

Go to 1:03:00 in the video and listen. You will hear a very familiar tune woven in the postlude, "Ode to Joy" from Beethoven's 9th Symphony.

“The invention of basketball was not an accident. It was developed to meet a need. Those boys simply would not play 'Drop the Handkerchief.'”

I told the Rev Lawgrad I wanted this at my funeral, many years hence (I hope).

I've been to funerals for Tarheels where Hark the Sound was played at the end. But this was the first one I've heard for a Blue Devil. I loved the way it was tastefully woven into "Joy"--- most fitting. Nice, indeed!
Love, Ima
