K. Roper to Florida?
Adam Rowe is reporting Kurt Roper is interviewing for the OC position at Florida.

Funny, last offseason we weren't even too pleased with ole Roper...really though, it's hard to deny he was excellent calling plays and making adjustments. Fuss all you want about a low scoring game against Va Tech, but the play calling was fine. If Boone hit a wide open Crowder, that was a different game.
Someone else mentioned it, but I'll repeat it. I don't like this move for Roper because I don't think he'll have time to make the necessary changes to Florida's offense before Will Muschamp gets the boot. If they start slow, it could spell doom for the staff. That's a legit concern, but I thought the same thing for Hobby and Clemson/Dabo did just fine. I would suggest that if Roper sticks around 1 more year, he may be a candidate for some head coaching positions and see a much bigger pay raise. I think there would be more job security in waiting. Still, Florida was never and is never hurting for talent. Maybe a few play calling changes would make a huge difference in the outcomes of the Florida games.
I don't expect a big or even medium size name coming up if he bolts. Coach will likely pull someone from his past to fill a role. I say "a role," because I don't think it's guaranteed the role hired will be OC. He may give that position to Scottie M. and hire a receivers coach.

Re: K. Roper to Florida?
If he goes, your scenarios sound totally plausible. Scottie has had a big impact on the team, so that would be a logical progression.
As much as I loved to hate him, Roper has shown his worth in the last two seasons. (Or at least the last season and a half.) Florida definitely needs help, but I hope they find it elsewhere. If Roper goes, I hope it is for a head coach job and not the same position at another school.

Re: K. Roper to Florida?
And he's off to the SEC. (Again.)
http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... -devils-oc
He will stay to coach the Blue Devils in Atlanta for the Peach Bowl.
I do appreciate him sticking through to see an excellent job finished, although I can see how it is easier for an assistant to stay on as opposed to a guy going to a HC job. (Like Cut did when he came to Duke.) Roper is heading back to the SEC, where he has spent much of his career, can't blame him for that. It will be fun to see what direction Duke goes with the hire, and how it shapes the field next year.

Re: K. Roper to Florida?
Yeah, gotta wish him the best! Duke folks seem to do well at Florida.
I think with Cutcliffe's background in offense and QB development, I don't think we lose anything with our recruiting. Still, next year may have a few more hiccups on play calling if we transition a new person to that role.

The Best to Kurt Roper and his family. Does the SEC or Florida pay more than Duke pays Roper? He is taking the same position that he has now with Duke and Coach Cut.

Ozzie's calling Cut tomorrow to remind him he's still available. I think Cut might remember him .
I'll let Oz tell that story ;) .

Roper is an SEC guy, been there most of his career. An OC job done well in the SEC is a stepping stone to an HC job in the SEC, which regardless of pay can't be matched.DevilWearsPrada2.0 wrote:The Best to Kurt Roper and his family. And Coach Cut spent his career in the SEC, and has proved well at Duke in the ACC!!! I realize most of his staff followed him from Ole Miss and Tennessee.CameronBornAndBred wrote:Roper is an SEC guy, been there most of his career. SEC Football is so competetive. But I think FSU wil win over Auburn for the National Championship.
The Best to Kurt Roper!!!

No doubt that Coach Cut would remember Ozzie, indeed!!!
And for all of us that were at the Blue Devil Club luncheon that day.......... we will always remember
I think Coach Ron Middleton was the keynote speaker that day at Blue Devil Club. During the Q&A session, Someone made it a Rant session. Surprised that Middleton didn't tackle him !!!
I would like to hear the Story (after being summoned to Coach Cut's office) !!!!! I think the BDC President was also included included in that talk with Coach Cut.

This brainy young man flipped his commitment from Florida to Florida St. He says Kurt Roper coming to UF didn't cause him to want to stay because Florida doesn't get the athletes Duke does.

Re: K. Roper to Florida?
I wondered about KR's move when he first made it, seemed like a big risk to take with a coach on such a hot seat.
Things are not looking good in Gainesville. That's not to say that Roper would not be hired by Muschamp's replacement, but his job would definitely be up in the air. The is from an ESPN blog on the ACC page.

http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/7 ... -learned-2Unless Florida can run the table the rest of the season, which would include upsets of No. 9 Georgia in Jacksonville, Florida, on Nov. 1 and No. 2 Florida State on the road on Nov. 29, the Will Muschamp era will probably come to an end after four seasons.
The early list of candidates being mentioned for the not-yet-open UF job include Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen, Ole Miss’ Hugh Freeze, Arizona’s Rich Rodriguez and Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops.

Re: K. Roper to Florida?
I also was very confused by Roper's decision to leave for such an unstable program. There is no way he will be at Florida next year if Muschamp is fired. Whoever replaces him will bring in his own coordinator's. I really thought Roper could have stayed at Duke and left for a HC job whenever he wanted. I can't imagine him returning to Duke if he loses his job. Any thoughts?

No way he comes back. Not that Cut wouldn't rehire him, but he wouldn't demote Montgomery just to make room for him once again.wolfpackdevil wrote:I also was very confused by Roper's decision to leave for such an unstable program. He'll be hired by someone as an assistant, surely.

Kurt Roper has been hired by the Cleveland Browns as a Special Offensive Assistant.
