Can we just start Connette? Boone is not the same player he was before his injury. He's not patient anymore and he's playing in a panic mode. That's leading to bad decisions. I feel for him, he's a good guy that the team likes and he's got a solid arm, but he's gunning some throws that do need to be darts, but not bullets. His interceptions generally look like his fault. Sometimes receivers run the wrong route, but it just doesn't seem like a route issue. The receivers look like they are in the right spot. I think part of the problem is defenses figured that if his first option isn't open, he'll get happy feet and get nervous. Then he makes a quick decision and throws and it's frequently to the other team. Lastly, mistakes seem to rattle him.
Connette has issues with turnovers...the difference is the ice in his veins. It just doesn't seem to rattle him and he'll come back and make play. Also, the distribution of the passes seem to improve with Connette. At this point, I think he's reading defenses better than Boone and I also think defenses get very concerned when Connette's on the field. I think they start thinking on the field about whether he'll run or not and that gives Connette a second to make a big play.
For this coming game against Miami, I really hope we run the ball. Snead, Powell, Duncan, and Thompson should be flat gassed by the end of the Miami game.

Re: QB change - Start Connette
I totally agree with this point. Boone seems to have no idea where the opponent's linebackers are at during a play. He threw the ball over the middle right into the waiting arms of a a LB twice yesterday and at least once against VT.The Football Fan wrote:At this point, I think he's reading defenses better than Boone and I also think defenses get very concerned when Connette's on the field.
A second point I will make is Connette is better at executing the read option. If the main focus of our offense is going to be the read option, Connette is the better choice to execute it.
Personally, I expect Boone to start against Miami and I am okay with that course of action. The coaching staff will have Boone watching film to correct his mistakes and they will develop a game plan for Miami; however, if Boone gets off to a slow start, Connette needs to be inserted into the game sooner rather than later.
Beating Miami is a real possibility but if we turn it over four times we will lose.
