Duke Vs. VT, 3:30 ESPNU
As awesome as yesterday was, it's time to look ahead. Anyone care to remember last year? A 20 point halftime lead turned into a 21 point loss. Sound familiar?
I don't expect a repeat of last year, or of yesterday, but I do expect us to play tough. VT earned themselves a 16th place spot in the polls released today. LGD!!!

Although Duke was up 20-0 in the first quarter, the halftime score was actually 20-17.

Either way, I could do without the repeat of a collapse. ;)

Duke opened as a 13.5 points underdog in Vegas.

I'd have thought about 14-17 points so I agree with you guys and Vegas.CameronBornAndBred wrote:That's fair.Bob Green wrote:Duke opened as a 13.5 points underdog in Vegas.

Duke 20, Virginia Tech 16. You heard it here first!
Of course, my prediction is based on the premise the team brings their A Game for a full 60 minutes! VT's defense is great, while our offense is very good. VT's offense is shaky as is our defense. If the defense can play for 60 minutes how they have in the 2nd half most games, I'm confident our offense can score enough points to win.
2nd half points allowed this year: 0, 7, 14, 21, 10, 0 and 0. That's an average of 7.4 points. We play solid defense for 60 minutes and holding VT to 16 or so points is a possibility.
Somewhere along the way while I was daydreaming through Stats class, they (the infamous they) discussed throwing out the high and the low when figuring the mean, mode or median (those neat measures of central tendency). Get rid of the pesky 21 points given up to Pitt and the 0 allowed to NCCU and the average drops to 6.2 points allowed in the 2nd half this season.

What a splash that'd be nationally if they can pull that off, Bob! I love the thought of the upset. VT overlooks opponents on a regular basis so I'm hoping it's one of those days!

2011: No stinkers
2010: James Madison 21, VT 16
2009: North Carolina 20, VT 17
2008: East Carolina 27, VT 22
Five stinkers in the past five season with four of the stinky losses played in Blacksburg. My mantra for 2013: Let it be Duke! It is time for Duke to knock off a Top 20 team on the road in conference play. This weekend we make a statement!

Injury Report:
PROBABLE: Kelby Brown, Bryon Fields, Johnell Barnes
OUT: Dwayne Norman, Jared Boyd, Thomas Sirk
OUT FOR THE SEASON: Tanner Stone, Jamal Wallace
No surprises, which is refreshing. Overall, a very small injury report.

VT gets a cornerback back in Antone Exum, but could be down two other ones:

Brandon Facyson - concussion
Kyle Fuller - groin injury

Re: Duke Vs. VT, 3:30 ESPNU
This is my first post in a long time but this season has been too much fun not to write about. It does scare me that Duke lost this same game by 20 last year and VT is much better this year. I expect our defense to continue its 2nd half success this week, but they can not allow Logan Thomas to throw up big numbers early on. If this is a one possession game at halftime we have a very good chance of winning. Either way, the State matchup in a couple weeks is going to be a very big game.
If McCaffrey, Braxton, and Blakeney play well today I think Duke has a shot of pulling off a big upset. If not, 5-3 isn't going to be a surprise to anyone. GO DUKE!!

I would add that our running game is going to be very important to create a win. The Duke offense is going to have to beat the VA Tech defense.wolfpackdevil wrote:This is my first post in a long time but this season has been too much fun not to write about.
