Prognostications

Let's limit this to the 12 regular season games in order to keep it simple. I'll play it safe and predict a 7-5 record. So, Bob Green goes on record with his 2013 Duke football wins prediction.

However, the reason I started this thread is when I asked my grandson Zeke if he was about ready to go watch some football, he replied, "we are going undefeated this season." So Zeke Green goes on record with a 12-0 prediction. Before anyone dismisses him totally, he does have a track record. At the start of the Maryland-Duke basketball game in the ACCT, when Maryland won the opening tip-off, Zeke stood up threw his glasses into the TV room floor and announced, "We are going to lose!" When it was 12-2 Maryland, he was sent to his room on timeout for the remainder of the game.***

***I voted to beat his ass with a stick, but my daughter overruled me on the premise I really desired to beat Maryland's ass with a stick.

Sat, Aug 31 N.C. Central - blowout :D tune up with Boone getting 3 TDs in air, 1 on ground, gets careless 1 pick, but running game solid, 1 back gets 110-120 yrds
Sat, Sep 07 Memphis We win in a blowout :-o
Fiesty game in 1st half, we blow out second half. Ross hits a key field goal in the 2nd quarter. 2 backs hit 100 yards. Media starts to comment on the surprising running attack of the devils... :ymapplause:

Sat, Sep 14 Georgia Tech - Very close, but after going up in the fourth quarter Vad Lee stings us with a busted assignment and goes 50+ yards. We don't recover :(( , but our running game again makes a statement.

Sat, Sep 21 Pitt - we win because we control the tempo of the game, Monday and Ross win this game for us. a bad fumble or pick could change this, but this is where our guys show they learned from Cincy. go 4-0, 2-0 in ACC :happy-bouncyblue:
Sat, Sep 28 Troy - We win and our defense looks great. The D-line gets pressure and has its best game at the line of scrimmage. Crowder has a huge game...highlight reel type game...sits in 4th quarter with a baseball cap :ymcowboy:
Sat, Oct 12 Navy We win, Ross and Boone have great games, but Cash gets the MVP. Things are looking good, we get a few votes for the top 25. :-BD
Sat, Oct 19 Virginia - though they've lost some games early in the year and we have a better record, this game is ugly. We lose one of our better players to injury for the year and another goes down. The game will be decided in the 3rd quarter. If we win, it's because of the defense. I'll say we do. We get the lead in the 3rd and pound them in the 4th. They have to rely on QB that's inconsistent. Anunike and Ondingo get pressure, Everett makes a pick to secure the win :ymdevil: We get the bowl eligibility :ymapplause:
Sat, Oct 26 Virginia Tech - we're a little more beat at this point than will be admitted, we get hammered. ~X(
Sat, Nov 09 N.C. State - we win. Cutcliff has a pretty good record against new coaches. We have a bye to prepare and heal. Most complete game of year :flame:
Sat, Nov 16 Miami We crash back to Earth and lose. Dammit.
Sat, Nov 23 Wake Forest We lose in a very close game. They have more on the line. We'll probably gift wrap this one with a botched play. Price will cause problems for us with his legs and hit Camp deep. The offense won't click right, but we'll be in the game in the 4th ~X(
Sat, Nov 30 North Carolina - we lose. Renner picks us apart. Boone struggles, but our running game keeps us in it. ~X(

7-5
Jela Duncan MVP 1000 yard season
Boone 15 TD air 5 ground 9 INT 60% completion
Ross 4 picks - they throw to the otherside
Anunike 8 sacks

I will be disappointed with fewer than seven wins. On the other hand, I will be pleasantly surprised with more than seven wins.

But we ain't gonna lose to no stinkin' Wake Forest!

More predictions from pundits, this time from CBS sports. One guy has us at 4th in the Coastal. Two have us lower at 5th and 6th. Five others are sheep in the herd and and put us last place.

Bad news for Wake, potentially good news for Duke - Josh Harris may be done. There is an appeal, so we'll see.

You know....dpslaw was very clear in stating we wouldn't lose to Wake. The above helps. Wake Forest does have some really good coaching and they don't beat themselves. By the time we play Wake, they'll likely have figured this position out. They have a few 3 star RBs on their roster, so they'll likely be okay, but take away your top horse and get a few dings on your next two and it does have an impact.

I think this is a year where we'll lose a game we'll all feel like we should of had in the bag. Between Wake, VA, and NC State, I think we'll lose to one of them. I'm certainly hoping I'm wrong in that we beat them all, but I'm surprised when someone says...No way we lose to Wake. Really....I feel good saying that about NC Central and perhaps Memphis, but I wouldn't say that about any ACC team. Too many things can happen between now and game day.

Since Wake is appealing, I would think it was a self reported academic issue that they think he can make up for. My guess is since they think it is worth appealing, there is a good shot he will be playing. I agree on all three teams you mentioned, I would never consider any of them a "should win". Just like no other ACC team should look at us with the same attitude. :duke:

Funny, Bob. :tease:

I gotta admit though that the offense was improved last year and was much less cuss-worthy than our porous defense.
