SICK AND TIRED...

...of broadcast announcers that tend to make fun of player's usage of the backboard to make a shot.
So far, VCU just as an example, has cost themselves at the very least 16 points because it appears that they refuse to bank in a close shot or even a damned layup! This is such a classic example of failure that coaches should show this game film to their players for reference!
Yesterday, I had to listen to radio guys that had to offer cheap shot comments on the air about those shots that happened to pass thru the nets after contact with the board. This included the vaulted John Thompson. I ask, should that shot count for fewer points? Why not start a movement to have the boards removed. IDIOTS! You don't get style points in the game of basketball. That square is painted up there for a reason. A very good one.
Who started this trend of thought? Line 'em up and shoot their asses down!
Sorry. It pisses me off.

I agree 100%. The backboard needs to be used more, a lot more. Using the board creates an advantage and taking that advantage is playing smart.

Our own Blue Devils were a prime example of my point, that is: if you fail to utilize the backboard, you lower your own feild goal percentage. Conversely, if you get the chance to watch a replay of either of the FGCU games so far, you will witness extensive use of the board. I lost count of just how much offense Duke cost themselves, only in last night's game.
To further explain, if you are high enough up off the floor to think it's a good idea to finger-roll it, DON"T PAL. DUNK IT!
If dunking it doesn't seem possible, make it easier on yourself.

If Mason had learned to use the backboard on free throws his accuracy would probably have improved drastically.
Using the backboard gives a greater margin for error.

While we're venting ---- how about yanking the rim! What I love about Mason is the beauty of his clean dunks. He rarely grabs the rim. How often have we seen a ball go in only to bounce out again because some yo-yo thought it was sexy to rattle the dang thing. In tennis there is nothing more impressive than an artful drop shot. In basketball there's hardly anything sweeter than a clean, crisp dunk -- unless it's a spectacular three-pointer.

I most situations, basketball, billiards, it can be said of tennis and many other sporting events, finnese and 'touch' can yeild better results than full strength and power.
