DBR "Banned" Letter - A MUST READ!

Disclaimer: I have no ill will towards DBR and know they are mostly good guys that run a great site. But this is just a bit ridiculous, so I MUST share!

Okay, so as many of you know I, EarlJam, was banned from the DBR (as some of you are also) a few years back by what most agree are some seriously over-sensitive moderators with perhaps a minor God complex. Anyway, months ago, I "re-applied" to DBR and began posting again. I sort of WANTED them to catch me. My post were more serious as there WERE things on the board pertaining to Duke Basketball that I thought I could make a positive contribution. I figured enough time had passed that if I made an obvious Username, and have them bust me, we'd all kind of get a laugh out of it, they'd see my new posts are more genuine, and they'd have no problem with the whole thing. Bygones, burying the hatchet, all that.

Boy was I ever wrong!

Again, I wanted to get caught, in time, so I made up an anagram of EarlJam and posted under the name: MEAL JAR. :D

I expected them to catch on, kind of have a chuckle, invite me back in with open arms, etc. (again, the content of my new posts was solid). Instead, I now share with you their reply. I'll leave commentary up to you, but it DID leave me with some rather astounded and comical thoughts. I will leave the identity of who exactly responded out. Here is DBR's serious reply (from May of last year - I just "unearthed" it while looking for another old e-mail). By the way, this is real.:

From DBR to EarlJam/Meal Jar:

Earl Jam/Meal Jar,

The Mod team wants you to know that we are hurt and disappointed that
you decided to return to DBR after being banned and did not contact
any of us asking how this would be done within the rules of the
boards. To merely sign up with a different ID is not appropriate. We
have puzzled at our usual glacial pace, debating what to do about this
seeing as it seemed possible you did not know that applying for
reinstatement was possible. In the end, we decided to re-ban you.

That said, you now know that it is possible to apply to come back to
DBR after being banned. We expect folks who do that to show serious
contrition and recognition of the conduct that got them banned in the
first place. It is on you to come up with words and deeds that will
show us you plan to be a different kind of poster if we allow you to
return.

So, the ball is in your court. If you wish to discuss this further,
[NAME] has volunteered to serve as the point person. You can
email him at [Name] at gmail dot com.

There it is. Thoughts?

-EJ

Well, I think it is a very reasonable letter from them. They did say you were welcome to apply to come back, you weren't permanently banned, but had to do it within their rule structure. Perhaps they should have put you in Siberia rather than banning you, giving you the opportunity to discuss it with them if you wanted to. Of course, while in Siberia, you can't read the PM they send you explaining all this... Been there, done that. Perhaps some day I'll do it again. But not now. :)) :9f:

Yeah, sure, it's "reasonable," but the TONE of it.

They were "HURT and disappointed?" HURT? Come on.

"We expect you to show serious contrition?"

And then this: "It is on you to come up with words and deeds that will
show us you plan to be a different kind of poster if we allow you to
return."

I don't know. Lighten up Francis. You run a basketball Web site.

Yes, reasonable, but golly, I didn't know I had the power to "HURT" them so.

"Hurt and disappointed" are words my mom used (okay, USES) when I had really messed things up.

Do you think that maybe my mom is a moderator at DBR now?

Why are you thinking of posting OY? They don't have all the cool smilies that we have. :naughty: ;) :ymcowboy:

Besides, now that Notre Dame is becoming an ACC school (as will Louisville and Syracuse), you have more boards to attempt to be banned from. I thought you were going to try to be banned throughout the ACC? **==

And what happens to your ban from the Maryland boards? :-\ :)) You DO have one there, right?

I think it could be possible that some may have contributed to the accounts of a certain unspecified overseas online casino.

Dear EJ:

Any of these might work (except the original one and Meal Jar, of course):

Ajar Elm
Raja Elm
Male Jar
Lame Jar
Meal Jar
Earl Jam
Real Jam
A Jar Elm
Jam La Re
Jar La Em
Jar La Me
Jar Am El
Jar Ma El

There are so many good stories you could use for any of them, such as you used to be a tree, there are other kinds of jars or you hail from the planet Krypton and are a distant cousin of Superman (ya gotta look up Superman's original name to understand the last suggestion ;) ).

Best of luck.

I agree with you Cathy!!!! Hurt and Disappointed were words our parents used when we flubbed!!!!

EJ............. are you posting on Inside Carolina forum, or GoPack or Miami (I assume they have a forum).

HOW did OY catch you? Did you use a different computer to sign up under a different Name, or was it just your Posts???

Some things people take too seriously in life. A board primarily about a certain college's mens basketball team is one of them.

When I was banned the message said I would never be unbanned (I think it was actually "Date Ban Will Be Lifted: Never") and I am fine with that. As far as I am converned, they can all fo fuck their hats. But maybe I should sign up under another name just for shits and giggles...

Well, I just got a new response from the moderators at DBR! Someone alerted them to this particular thread............and they are NOT pleased! They sent me an e-mail. The tone was as follows (and this IS a direct quote from the five-paragraph-long e-mail from them to me):

"The mod team was recently alerted to the thread you started about us on Crazietalk, the one in which you seem to mock the email we sent last year when you were re-banned for your Meal Jar attempt to get around the system. That was a bad move, my friend."

I thought about removing this post as communication started with DBR and me. Then I thought, "Well, they'll see the humor in it. It's not even that bad." WRONG!

They are steamed. And hurt....and basically said that the loss of a poster means nothing to them. Okay, not totally fair. Their exact words were: "It is not like the community actually feels the loss of a banned poster" and "We don't get anything extra out of having them there... other than extra work."

Nothing like a good response from those stodgy creatures with personalities of a stale donut to remind me why I was totally cool with getting banned in the first place. Lordy, lighten up Francis!

Let me see...
You went somewhere you were not wanted
The same somewhere you riducle whenever the opportunity arises...
You faked a name to get around being banned
You mocked them for it publically when they caught you

and your whining 'cause they're a little pissy?

Seriously?

If you don't like them don't go there. If you think they are asshats then why are you wasting your time there? You don't get to taunt peolple then whine when you get a reaction. You probably tap on the cages in the zoo and tease dogs just outside the range of their tie outs.

...and btw the loss of poster doesnt' mean anything to them.. Remember, DBR is no longer owned by Julio/Boswell/James. The $$ on the site are driven by the number of hits and ad clicks...and the boards don't add to that
