How are you spending this cold, yucky day?
The OP and I made a quick trip to Raleigh to turn in the papers for a refinance. Got back almost before the precip started. Now we've hunkered down. I made chili yesterday. Decided to make some coconut cupcakes to go with before I head up to my studio. The kitchen smells good and DukeRah says she'll put the icing on.
I hope the team is spending it taking hits from Nate. They really need to man up by tomorrow!
Love, Ima

Vegetarian chili just came off the stove and is cooling a bit now

PHB told me to go home at 11:45. He didn't have to tell me twice.
We ventured out to the hardware store and bought birdseed for Biff the Titmouse and all his feathered buddies.
Beef stew and wine for supper.

I made a pot of 2 Alarm Chili last night.... one of the best in a long time. The first frozen precipitation fell before 9A here, so I went out to spread the ice melt between that wave and another one that came before 11A. I have a safe path out the front door to the mailbox. Schools let out early and most leaving from the nearby high school were driving prudently as the parade of vehicles drove by here.
Had a very upbeat phone visit with my mother who is in reasonably good spirits today. Her Hospice volunteer came yesterday and played Carrom with her for a long time. Several other visitors came and some brought Mom some plants she enjoys as something of an indoor gardener.
The accumulation of sleet, frozen rain and snow is not very great, but it is quite hazardous. I am concerned about the drive to Durham tomorrow since I'll need to leave when the temperatures will still be in the 20s and the "owl grease" will be in place.

Hospice nurse? Is this a new development? Isn't Hospice usually a very short term service? Hope I'm wrong about that...

Her doctor made the referral recently because Mom has developed congestive heart failure....timeline not clear, but my mother is very frail now. She needs more care and monitoring. Mom was hospitalized for a week in mid December because of problems with fluid retention and an upper respiratory infection. Mom's back in assisted living; the additional assistance is a truly a blessing, making a difference in her outlook and her mobility.... Thanks for asking.

Well, of course I worked all day. I was the first one in the office this morning and the last one to leave this evening.
Right now I'm sitting in front of some candles in my sunroom drinking a glass of La Finca malbec wine and eating popcorn with Christian.
I think I'm going to get up early tomorrow morning and take pictures of the ice all over the trees in my yard.

The OP says he just saw a bulletin that everything at Duke is closed until noon tomorrow. That can't be right. Anybody?

You could further pad you post count by review the malbec in the wine thread!

I rode out a lovely 70+ degree day at the ofifce, beautiful sunrise over Tampa Bay driving in. Saw dolphins in the bay driving home. It did not suck.

Bud repaired the leaking main water line to the house yesterday. He and Kyle also made a trip to Burlington to rescue Dana. She got stuck and had no traction. I puttered around here. Would have loved to do some cooking but I didn't have water most of the day. We are not attempting to go to the game today, as our back roads are still terrible. Getting to Cameron from the parking lot could be difficult. Not worth a broken leg or arm. I do hope our boys show up for this game.
I'm making chicken and rice soup, using black rice. This is new for us. To bad there is no Duke Blue rice.
