Ben's mother, Harriet Freed, passed away last night. I talked with him about 730 PM tonight for a few minutes. Sadly/happily/amazingly, he sounded quite relieved as she had suffered a while and he took great comfort in the experience he had here with us over the Christmas holiday when my brother died. Please send a note, call or say a prayer for them tonight.

Ultimately, my mom died of congestive heart failure, but it was the flu that sent her spiralling down. We arrived there on Thursday several hours before she passed, so we were able to say our good-byes.

The graveside service will be Thursday afternoon this week in the family burial plot in an Elmont, Long Island cemetary. After the service, we are keeping with her spirit, and having a big family dinner at Harold's. She'd have wanted it that way.
