The US Economy: Recession, depression, or other?
US Healthcare
The US environment... how is it doing?
The war in Afghanistan

Stories that I can follow:
Michael Jackson's vault
The Comoros airplane disaster survivor
What went wrong with David Beckham in LA?

Clarification on the top four would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Lavabe

I've inserted numbers to make it easier to follow the replies.

1. Market opened down (-140 pts. on the Dow Jones 30, -37 pts. on the Nasdaq) big today, July 3rd, but the stock market is basically going sideways for the last month or so. Parts of the economy, mostly smart phones, is doing OK, and with Windows 7 coming out this fall it bodes very well for MSFT and the PC makers, for the first time in 2 years, as an upgrade cycle is a bit overdue. Unemployment hovers around 10%, most States are having problems with their budget and are looking at huge deficits, that by law they must balance. And the President keeps pushing big spending programs, mortgaging your grandchildrens' future. Eventually the stimulus program spending will kick in, but so far we're still waiting for most of the construction programs to begin.

On the bright side, the wholesale price of unleaded gasoline has started to drop, from $2.00/gallon last week to under $1.80 this morning, so hopefully we'll see the retail price drop from the mid $2.60s in the next week or so.

2. No change. Swine flu, while still spreading, fortunately isn't killing people.

3. It's too hot, it's too cold, it's too wet or it's too dry. So in other words, everything is normal.

4. We started an offensive yesterday with 5000 marines to go after the Taliban in the poppy region. Other than hearing it began, we haven't heard how well we're succeeding yet.

Stay safe, my friend. And keep your reports coming!

How about a nice beer mixed with Clamato?
Just what could be best to enhance the intricate flavors in that simple brew?
I know ...FISH! Not just any fish. Shellfish...and a vile fruit.

I've written on it before over yonder, but whoever the genius was who decided to come up with the Budweiser Clamato flavor should be shot. That was by far one of the most vile concoctions I've tasted in my life. I say tasted instead of drunk because there was no way I was going to actually finish it. For some bizarre reason I bought 2, (2 for 1 sale I'm sure), the second one I used for cooking. The rest of the first one went down the sink.

To make this post relevant to the thread, some teacher accidently gave her class a DVD of her having sex.

I don't think they were aiming it at your demographic, CB&B. In fact, from what I've heard, it's VERY popular amongst the hispanic set. And I don't mean the third generation American hispanic set.

AB didn't invent the style with its clamato mixture. It's called red beer (or red eye) and it is quite popular among Mexican-Americans. It's also pretty common in the midwest and, from my understanding, Canada. It's basically a bloody mary with beer instead of vodka.

I dunno what kind of Bloody Marys you drink, but mine are damn good, and they don't have clam juice in them. Gross. For that matter, I wouldn't want a martini with beer instead of vodka.

I don't drink vodka, so I'm not sure I've ever had a bloody marry. I've also never had a red beer. But I do believe that clamato is a pretty common bloody marry ingredient. I also believe that people will often mix hot sauce, olives, pepper, etc. in their red beer, which is where the comparison to a bloody marry came from.

Given that gin is the proper martini ingredient, making one with beer is just one step away from making it with vodka ;)
