The 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month...

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Nice, colchar!

It's been wonderful seeing the Premier League players and coaching staff wearing the Remembrance Day poppies. Nice tributes this morning.

QFE.

The BPL guys had poppies yesterday, as well. It was touching to see all those people observing a moment of silence. Unlike some places in the US, there was actually silence.

It certainly is beautiful and was written in 1915 by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, an army surgeon from Guelph Ontario, during WW I after presiding over the funeral of a fellow soldier. The poem became the inspiration for the Remembrance Day poppies we see today. McCrae himself died of pneumonia in January of 1918.
