This is interesting. I hadn't heard about the possibility before until I read it buried in this article.
Holliday’s accident left an already thin position group scrambling to fill the depth chart. Only four wide receivers remain on the roster, and the Blue Devils are flirting with converting running back Desmond Scott, among others, to wide receiver.
If he can catch the ball, can you imagine the benefit of having his speed? Some of those long bombs that Renfree throws (and ultimately overthrows) just might become more touchdowns instead of balls hitting the dirt. I wonder if Cutcliffe & Co. would use him in a dual role as well...that could set up some really interesting plays if Roper gets brave enough.

Desmond Scott to Wide Receiver is a significant development from a couple of perspectives. First, we are thin at wide receiver so with this move Coach Cutcliffe is exploiting his running back depth to ensure multiple playmakers are on the field simultaneously. He spoke about ensuring the maximum number of playmakers were on the field during spring training interviews and this move indicates he was serious. Holliday's recovery from his serious injury is way more important than anything going on on the football field, but viewing the situation from a purely football perspective, it is nice to have some depth to counter his unavailability.
Second, the ability to move Scott to wide receiver speaks volumes about the health of our running backs. Scott was our leading rusher as a freshman and sophomore and second leading rusher as a junior. I assume Josh Snead is fully recovered and ready to go this season and will see major playing time in conjunction with Juwan Thompson. Moreover, the staff must feel confident about one or more of the incoming freshman running backs.
Has any information arisen on the psychological state of Jamison Crowder? He must be devastated by this accident and I am worried about his long term recovery. Holliday's injury was an accident but that is easy for me to say and difficult for Crowder to accept.

It's official...
“Coach (Kurt) Roper said, ‘you’re no longer a running back, you play wide receiver,’ and that was that,” said Scott, adding that he had worked a bit at the position in the spring. “No reluctance at all. I embraced it with open arms. I played it in high school. Of course there’s a difference between playing in high school and playing in college, but with this move, goals that I have are so much closer.”

I have two take aways from this decision: 1) Coach Cutcliffe is committed to defense this season or he would have opted to move Brandon Braxton back to wide receiver. 2) Josh Snead is 100% healthy and ready to be an impact running back.
Is it September yet?
