Duke wide receiver Blair Holliday had a jet ski accident yesterday near Charlotte and is hospitalized in critical condition in chapel hill. There is a thread on the DBR, including a post from someone who's friend pulled him from the water.

I started a thread earlier today in the Football Forum as I didn't see this one. Here are my best wishes to Blair for a full recovery.

Jack Daly of the N&O has tweeted that the doctors plan to keep him sedated for several days to keep the swelling down and do not plan surgery at this time. I suppose that is a good sign.

Heard on the news the play he collided with was Jameson Crowder. Glad he wasn't hurt too.

Reports say he is in a coma, but I have not read if it is medically induced or not. ugh...

It is. It think DPSlaw told us that.

Vibing for Blair. And for Jameson, who was the other player involved, but thankfully not physically injured.

If he is indeed in a coma, whether it be brain trauma from the accident, medication induced or both, they are not good signs. They indicate some degree of cerebral edema (brain swelling).

Disclaimer: I am a cardiologist, not a neurologist or neurosurgeon but have just enough knowledge to be dangerous here.

What DD said. Neurological injuries are so complex. Let's hope and pray for the best of all possible scenarios.

Agreed. And even with that outcome, I would make a layman's guess that 2012 would be a redshirt year for him to give his brain a chance to heal. And he may never play football, or any contact sport, again.

I absolutely hate those damned jet skis. Our grandsons had them for several years. Sold them just this year to my great relief. Holiday is the exact same age as Native... class of 2015. There but for the grace of God .... etc.

The contraptions are loud and annoying to others. The fun of them is the violent swooshes they can make that stir up wakes that endanger swimmers around docks. They dart around boats that can't stop on a dime to keep from running them over. The drivers are usually young men who consider themselves indestructible. But, then I'm just an old fogey who would rather have my grandsons show up for hotdogs rather than end the day floating face down on the water.

The law on our lake is that one has to be 26 years old or pass a test to operate one. I don't know if that's a state law or just applicable to our lake. But, it's clear that Holiday was not 26 years old. I wish jet skis were outlawed altogether. I'm sure Holiday's parents wish they had been already. Instead they just keep building hotter and hotter ones every year.

I'm looking out my studio window and there go two more ripping past our dock. Godspeed, kids.

Love, Ima

I have been thinking of Blair and his family last night and all day. All water sports can be dangerous. It's the "horsing around" that causes the trouble. A lot of people never learn until something awful happens.

Me too, VDB. It freshens in my mind every few minutes when I hear another one do another "doughnut" out there on the water. I use it as a reminder to send another little vibe out there for Holiday and Crowder.

The same report is on the news again this morning. That Blair is at Unc hospitals. This situation sounds so much more critical than I realized at the first time I heard the report.

God bless Blair and the Holliday family. :YMPRAY:
