So, anyone know what is really going on? Or where the internet rumors abounded?

Even the red shirt is a maybe. He will not play next year. He may not play again, ever. It was clear watching him at the end of the year that the joy had gone out of the game for him. He will remain at Duke.
I wish 'Dre the best.

First I've heard of this was this morning. Redshirting? Why? To discover defense or find his shot? He can do that over the summer. I'm glad there is no T-word floating, and hope it doesn't.
Windsor, joy can be fleeting, and it will return to him soon.

Bless his heart! Whatever his decision, I hope that he continues to grow as a man. He's been a favorite in our household and we'll continue to support him.

Sorry Ozzie but it is apparently more than that. T word was never discussed, but the orginal rumors had him getting thrown off the team and or suspended from the team. I think the 'remain and Duke but will NOT play' is a face saving move. The possible red shirt in the fall is not a done deal. He will, my understanding is, NOT play next year period. He
might red shirt to leave the option of playing in 13/14 season open.
I have no intell on what the issue(s) might be. Personal, medical, academic...no clue.

Upon further review, I hope my previous post doesn't sound harsh, as it isn't meant that way. I feel badly for 'Dre, whatever his issues are. He's been one of my favorites and wish him only the best, even if he never picks up a basktball again.

Joy is not fleeting with me. It is permanent

I think Dre needs a lot of love and hugs.

How many people will be on the roster next year?
Expect the Curry family to be on TV a lot during games next year. ;)

I wondered if his sister's death had anything to do with whatever is going on. Even though she died 2.5 years ago, I have no doubt he was able to fully deal with it not only right after it happened, but since then.
I hope that the time off will help him heal emotionally and he'll be back.

I've thought that for a long time, Til. So this hasn't surprised me one iota. After watching my two grandsons finding their way at the same age, I'm reminded that Andre even left high school a year younger than they did. It's not an easy transition under the best of circumstances these days. And Duke is not an easy place....especially with the whole country watching while you are expected to put some ball into some ring with astounding regularity and questioning you when you faulter.
I also think Nolan was a good, good friend and mentor for Dre. I think he missed him a lot this year.
Yes, hugs and patience are in order.
Love, Ima

May you find peace, Dre. If you return, great, but if not I hope you put any unrest behind you.

Coach K said recently that a decision will be made in the fall. We'll just have to give him a few months to sort things out for himself. If he can, he'll play. If he can't, he'll take a year off and play the following year (if he wants to).

Chronicle is tweeting that K has said that Dre is 100% Redshirt next year....
All the best to Dre, I do hope we see him in a Duke Uni again.
