2013 Recruiting

Post by Bob Green » March 22nd, 2012, 6:17 pm

Duke received their third verbal commitment from a 2013 recruit:

CB Evrett Edwards 5'11 175 Woodbridge, VA

The first two verbals came from:

QB/ATH Quay Chambers 6'3" 190 Monroe, NC
OL Austin Davis 6'5" 295 Mansfield, TX

Nice..I really hope we can put a decent season together. Cut has proven to be a good recruiter, but obviously results on the field will make things easier.

This ties in nicely with Bob's announcement about Kite.
I missed this article in the Chronicle, but it's a good one. It takes a look at the impact that Peyton Manning has had on recruiting, plus mentions a few names of guys who have taken visits to Duke.
“[Growing up,] I always thought Duke was one of the worst teams in the ACC,” said Jake Kite, an uncommitted safety from Virginia in the class of 2013, who is being recruited by the Blue Devils, N.C. State, Virginia Tech and Maryland. “But now it’s amazing how they are on the upswing."

Something tells me Everett may not be suiting up for the devils after all. It's starting to sound like a commitment unless something better comes along. Better is always subjective. I think this means Duke leads for now, but that's it. Hopefully I'm wrong about that.

That's part of the goofy world of football recruiting. Until the LOI is signed, other teams don't give a shit, and keep piling on the offers.

CB Breon Borders from Statesville verbally committed today. He is 6'1" 170. It is good to get a CB with size.

With the camps underway, there may be more offers and commitments to celebrate.

While the myth of not being able to attract and coach really good big men persists in basketball lore about Duke, the football program continues to pick up some noteworthy bulk and speed for line play.
Sterling Korona - 6'7" 250 lb. OL
Mike Ramsay - 6'3" 260 lb. OL/LB
Gabe Brandner - 6' 6" 250 lb. OT

Good lord! That's absolutely huge, those three could eat the entire front line from 6 years ago for lunch. :happy-bouncyblue: :duke:

QB/WR? With a 4.5 40, sounds like he's almost fast enough to throw passes to himself but at "only" 6'2" he is probably not quite tall enough! :)) :))
Thanks, Bob.

Here is a report on how some of Duke's recruits are faring in their high school games:

http://bluedevilnation.net/2012/09/friday-night-lights/
In California, wide receiver Darren Andrews demonstrated big play skills as Bishop Amat defeated Charter Oak 30-14. Andrews returned the opening kick-off 85 yards for a touchdown but the play was negated by a personal foul penalty. After Charter Oak scored to go up 7-0, Andrews returned the ensuing kick-off 88 yards for a touchdown. This time the play counted.
I'm responsible for the article with a big assist from Patrick Cacchio who provided the quote from Gabe Brandner; however, I didn't write the article's title (yuck!).
