This issue was discussed in our New Employee Orientation session. The context of the discussion was the difference between Baby Boomers and Generation Y-ers. The former do not believe this sort of language is not appropriate in the workplace, and the Gen Y-ers do not see the problem. There's also a big difference in dress code perceptions. Baby Boomers have a fairly strict idea on what constitutes appropriate workplace apparel, and Gen Y-ers do not believe that they should be expected to wear a suit and tie (for example). This was all put in a very positive light, of course, and the upshot was that we need to respect each other and learn some middle ground.
