What was your immediate reaction after Rivers' shot?
How did you react?
I leaped out of my recliner, THREW a fist in the air several times and just screamed "YES! YES! YES!"
Then, just like I did with the Laettner shot, I stopped for a second for a reality check, "Wait. Did that count? Did it tie or win? Is the game really over? Did Duke really just win?"
Just amazing, and truly unbelievable.
WHAT DID YOU DO?

Mr Windsor was asleep on the couch (cold medicine).
He awakened to a sound two decibels below "jet engine at full throttle 3 feet away" that sounded like his wife (who was at that time in mid air) screaming "AUSTIN MOTHER FUCKING RIVERS" ..

Jumped off the couch with fists in the air and screamed WE DID IT and then screamed at the dog - did you see that? Of course she did! (Mr ID very lucky to be in Dallas or his eardrums would've been broken!)

I was in bed and let out a scream which woke K68 who was asleep on the couch. Scared the kitties and dogs that were in bed with me and they left.

I was on the couch. I jumped up and screamed, "We won, we won, we won!" I then ran over to the Duke Basketball Christmas tree and unplugged it. Then I called my mom who screamed as she answered the phone, "That was the sweetest victory ever!" My BFF Kim then beeped in, and while we were screaming in unison "Can you believe it? We won, we won, we won," my BF Matt beeped in to congratulate me. I then jumped on FB and started "liking" all of my Duke friends' statuses. My FB feed was scrolling so fast--it was amazing! I had a hard time going to sleep, so I stayed up and watched WRAL's coverage of the team's arrival back on campus in the middle of the night.

Re: What was your immediate reaction after Rivers' shot?
Not that you asked for it, but I'm going to give it to you anyway. One note, our big screen TV is on the third floor of our house.
At 57-44, I went downstairs to monitor my 11 year old going to bed. He didn't protest too hard as we were all feeling a sense of impending doom. (Plus he's still smarting from the Super Bowl - he took that game the hardest in the family.)
I stayed downstairs and read a little bit of Hop on Pop to my youngest son. I kissed them both good night and told them I was going to go be with Duke until the bitter end. On the way back upstairs, I grabbed my reading glasses and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I knew I'd never be able to stay in the room without something to pretend to be distracted by.
At the 5 minute mark I admittted to my husband and two older sons that I had a bad feeling all day about this game. I also expressed the hope that my lack of faith was not the reason for the 10 point deficit.
At the 2 minute mark I remarked that although I remained somewhat pessimistic, Duke was not out of it. I then knocked on wood and opened my book. Sheer force of will kept me out of the bathroom.
At the 1 minute mark, I closed my book, having not read a word since I'd opened, and said, "Oh shit, now I have to start caring."
At the 14 second mark I screamed "Foul him!"
At the 2 second mark I screamed "Shoot it!"
At the 0.0 mark, I started laughing, and high-fiving, and shouting "Holy fuck" over and over. Then I went downstairs and hugged my 11 year old and told him I would never, ever send him to bed before a Duke-Carolina game was over again. He's kinda like me though, he told me that it was OK, going to bed probably brought them good luck.

What time did they arrive on campus? They hadn't when WRAL stopped their news coverage and went to Letterman and Ferguson, which I watched parts of while on line, and then started Criminal Minds about 2:20 (20 minutes later than scheduled). I have that recorded until 3:00 but it's not there either. Fortunately, my game recording went to 11:15, and the winning shot went in at 11:14!CathyCA wrote: I had a hard time going to sleep, so I stayed up and watched WRAL's coverage of the team's arrival back on campus in the middle of the night.

Re: What was your immediate reaction after Rivers' shot?
I was at home, which is now, since I moved from Hippity Dumpitty Hill , and I am 5 minutes away from Cameron/Wallace Wade....... had on my Duke pajamas and Duke socks....... 620am with Bob Harris blarring loud! Wral 5 on the TV, and I had ESPN on the laptop.... I could hear Bob Harris first, then see the play about 6/7 seconds later on ESPN, and about a 9/10 second delay on WRAL. As Duke was making its final 2+ minute charge, I turned the radio up almost all the way!!! I was pacing!! and Texting!Ima Facultiwyfe wrote:Native phoned to say that permit or no permit, they burned the benches anyway!

When Mason gave the ball to Austin and he dribbled up the court... and was looking for his shot.... Seth was hand signaling to Austin to shoot the ball!!!! Step back.... shoot over 7ft tall Zeller........ and it was like the ball hung in the air for minutes!!!! Bob Harris screams... Oh my goodness!!! BOTTOMS!!! DUKE WINS!!!
I jumped up and down.... and screamed Oh My Goodness, Oh my Goodness.... we won we won!! Oh my God! Holy crap!!!
I had to watch the replay and made a couple of text. Slipped out of my Duke Pjs, and put on my clothes and ran out the door.... and headed to park over at the Bryan Center to go to the Quad for the bonfire and or celebration.... whatever the Students/fans were doing...
They did Burn benches, according to the Duke police, over at East Campus... and firecrackers and big Rockets were going off in the Quad. I thought the students had a permit for Wed, because they had a permit for Monday night.
The Students were chanting AUSTIN RIVERS....CLAP CLAP CLAP Another Cheer..,.. THANK YOU ZELLER (for the tip in).
The students stayed in the Quad, then ran like a stampede In the movie The Lion King....... I was standing beside of News 14 and WTVD 11... and we almost got trampled.
Drove over to Cameron, and waited on the bus!!! Many Students out there partying, Iron Dukes were there, fans were therE. Music was playing and the Dukies were partying! Playing the song by LMFAO, Party Anthem..... and jumping up and down! I took pictures on my phone and did a few videos....
The Duke team, staff and managers seemed so appreciative of all the people that were waiting on them to Arrive back @ Cameron!
And it was great to speak to Coach K, Wojo and Collins as they were making their way back to their offices!!!
ESPN was running highlights and Sports Center all night. Feel asleep with that on!
FULL MOON, and it was a THRILLER night!!! I could smell the stench out of Chapel Hill, all the way down 15/501....... And then to hear the silence from Chapel Hill, and the Crickets were chripping!
OMG!! We Won, We Won!!! OMG, Austin Rivers! along with a couple of GTHC GTH!

News 14 and WTVD11 where over at Cameron waiting on the Bus!!! The NEWS 14 lady, was beside me. We chatted over at the Quad, also. We both almost got trampled by the Stampede of Students! WTVD 11 guy, had his camera on a tripod.... and quickly pulled it up, so the students wouldnt knock him and the camera over.
I think the bus arrived around 1220 1225am. I made several texts and phone calls, while over at the Quad and outside Cameron.

I don't know what time the team got back. I saw the coverage played at 4:30 this morning. I sleep with the TV on, and I "watch" channel 5 all night. I was on my computer, reading, napping, watching TV, and I do recall the ~4:30 coverage. Ryan Kelly was the first player off the bus! I was so proud of him.OZZIE4DUKE wrote:What time did they arrive on campus? I was screaming and laughing hysterically. Laughing so hard I cried, in fact. Then I started coughing. Had to get a therapeutic shot of frozen Cream of Lemoncello to soothe my throat. I was also chatting in Section 21, which was great fun.
