TBCC Back In Action--Next Cook-Off Scheduled

Post by CameronBornAndBred » January 26th, 2012, 9:05 am

We have picked our next competition, this time leaving the comfy confines of REAL barbecue (eastern NC of course!) and heading a bit west to Kings Mountain, NC.
It is time again for the 16th Annual Firehouse Cook-Off, scheduled this year for April 20 & 21. This year promises to be a great event again as we are a State Championship event. Along with being sponsored again by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, North Carolina Governor has proclaimed this year’s event to be the

North Carolina Firehouse Barbeque State Championship
The winner of this year’s event receives an invitation to the American Royal Barbecue Contest and will be eligible for the Jack Daniels Invitational Contest. Sites will be awarded in the order applications are received.

TNT has invited me to help him with a catering event this weekend and our menu is going to be our standard 'cue competition fare...but spicier, I'm sure. So it will be good to dust off the grills and do a little practice. If anyone is near Kings Mountain (west of Charlotte) in April, come join us and eat some 'Cue! :happy-bouncyblue:

I have friends who live in Kings Mountain. They are retired from their careers at Duke. I'll send them over to see you all and cheer for you in the competition.

Same as always and then some. We have to cook pork, ribs, brisket and chicken. And like last time there will be an "anything butt" competition, meaning anything but those 4 categories. There is also a dessert competition that we will enter. Mmmm...grilled cake.

Fantastic! You guys need anything, please let me know. I'm assuming you guys will cruise down the night before. If so, we're about 45 minutes from Kings Mountain, you and Tim are welcome to crash at our place the night before. If you want to stay near Kings Mountain, let me know if you need a recommendation. If anything, Kelly and I would love to have you over for dinner. There's a really great, family-owned wine and beer store down the road from us too.

Look forward to coming out either way!

Ymm, beer!
Thanks much for the offer, but I'm sure we'll do as we did last time and camp out. DukePA however stayed in a hotel so she could probably use any info.
Last time we setup Thursday night, woke up to meat inspection and then started cooking for the anything butt competition, so having everything up and ready by the morning was a big plus. And we got to watch the people set up who were stragglers. It's pretty fun to see some of those grills set up, they are huge.

I don't know about that. I brought my camera. I enjoyed a few samples of the TBCC's fare, and it was just plain old fun to visit with you all.

Here's a contest the members of TBCC ought to enter:

http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/04/18/ ... sauce.html

The prize is only $100, but that will buy a lot of beer.
