Florida State - It Went A Little Like This

A Seminole Game for Florida State
Jan. 22 - Marietta, GA - EarlJam's Recliner - Ho often can you lament being on the wrong end of two buzzer beaters in one game? That's what happened to Duke Saturday, as it was burned by last second shots at the end of both halves, the first of which was a behind-the-back, blindfolded, with cinder block duct-taped on back of neck shot that bounced 34 times on the rim, then off the backboard and in.........or may as well have been like that.
As I settled into my seat with a microwaved pizza and some chips, I found my self quite fired up for this game. If Duke could win this game, they would remain undefeated in ACC play and would have some additional bragging rights over unc, who was ASS-DOWNED by FSU to the point where Roy ran away and left the lesser parts of his team on the court for dead. Well, it didn't work that way. Duke lost 76-73. To sum it up in a sentence: Duke was winning for much of the game, played tough, then FSU got tougher until it took the lead with about 10 seconds left, then Austin Rivers tied it as the Crazies rejoiced, only to see that dude for FSU hit a three pointer to win it as time expired to give Duke the bitter, bitter loss. There you go, run-on sentence and all.
Duke goes to 4-1 in the ACC, 16-3 overall and now shares the lead with those sons of bitches from Talla ASS ee. I should not have called them sons of bitches. I meant it as a compliment. As in, "Those tough sons of bitches."
Okay, look. I'm upset. Duke was winning pretty easily and I had to leave to play a tennis doubles match. I lost the match 4-6, 4-6 only to find that Duke had lost at the buzzer.
This gives a two-fold reason as to why I can't give a full report today. One, I'm upset. Two, I missed most of the second half and well, had I watched it I feel we might of won (you all know how that works).
So anyway, not the worst loss. Duke will learn from it. The defense simply HAS to improve. Even on that last play, from what I saw, there was an opportunity to step up and play better D. Maybe Duke was already looking to overtime? I don't know.
Also, I DID see the "Shot Clock Shot" by Rivers near the end of the half. Had it counted, and had the FSU three-point miracle bank shot not gone in at the buzzer, well, Duke would have had a 12 point lead at the half. Then again, if lightning bugs had glass cutters and machine guns, people wouldn't f*ck with them by capturing them and putting them into mason jars and on the dresser at night so the bugs can light up and amuse their captors.
Anyway, it's an improving team to be sure. And it's an odd year, as Duke doesn't exactly have all the upper classmen talent-to-leadership ratio it's had in the past couple of years. I see the Rivers' shot near the end as a huge positive. He can be clutch..............and will be.
If I can ever get to watch a full game again, I promise to deliver a stronger report. Until then, please bear with me.
Oh, and mark your calendars for the rematch on February 22!
