I'm a bit late getting this up but, it was difficult to think about it being our last Home game. Seems like just yesterday that I was out there at 7am, for a 7pm kick-off!

Alas, this was not-to-be Duke's break-out season and I realize that some, if not many, of us are discouraged by the teams lack of success on the field. While I may weigh-in, more in-depth, on this topic in the SD thread, I'll just say this: as a 14-year season-ticket holder, I can remember when it took us five years to get three wins- total. We've improved but, we still don't quite have the talent, nor depth, to be a Wake Forest or better. But, for the first time in a long time, hell, since...EVER, we won three games in a row and competed well against three quality opponents. In other words, for the first time in years Duke actually had a chance to be bowl eligible. It just didn't work out this year.

It's coming, just takes time. In the meantime, we'll shed a great many fair-weather fans (this isn't directed at any TBCC members), but next year or, the one after, we'll get that third-tier Bowl invitation and then we'll get to say..."I remember way-back when and, even then, I KNEW WE COULD DO IT!"

Okay, so to put the finish on my pep-talk I'll just remind everybody of our unofficial motto:

Never let football ruin a good party.

On to the task at hand:

Forecast: 33C (64F) and partly cloudy- a fine Indian Summer day. Given the early KO, and, IMO, the opponent, we're going to go minimal on breakfast offerings and instead focus efforts on "late lunch". I understand that DukePA has something special up in her lab coat but, I'll leave it to her.

I'm really looking forward to this tailgate. I have an awesome time being there and seeing my friends.

For those of you who think that I'm giving up on Duke football, I will point out that I have not missed a single home football game since I moved back to North Carolina in June of 2008 (unlike some who have so vehemently responded to my statement, "I'm seriously questioning why we keep buying tickets to watch Duke lose football games.") I'm just sayin'. I haven't given up those tickets yet, nor have my mom and I curtailed our Iron Duke giving. But I am questioning when the payoff is coming, and I do experience a great deal of frustration with Duke football.

Looks like Mr. and Mrs. DD for the Brunchgate and late arrivals DD daughter #1 and newest SIL for a few chips, salsa and a beverage prior to KO. I heard rumors that seafood was the theme so we'll bring some fired (sic) gROuPER for the entree.

I'll be there early, before 10 for the Devil Walk. -bdbd and family, total 4, will be there, using the group's 4 tickets. I'm bringing beer and soda. Perhaps some cream cheese for those bringing bagels!

Oh yeah! I'm bringing a bushel of oysters which the Omegas have kindly agreed to roast, and will put on a good, old-fashioned seafood boil

Two lawgrads. B is excited about the game. I'm more interested in seeing all y'all at TBCC. I have only so much emotional rope, and the football team has used all of it I had allotted to them this year.

Barring major financial reversals, I will continue to be a season ticket holder and an Iron Duke next year, but I'm tired of watching the football team regress.

I'm leaving this in the attendance thread since it affects attendance, but FYI Duke apparently sent out an email to season ticket holders that they should get 2 free tickets to this upcoming game to invite friends with.

I just ordered our 2 extra tickets.
Our friends, Jane and Charlie, from Tn. will join us all for our seafood feast. They will give money.

Cool, Brett Huffman is stopping by. I've been wanting to give him a print of the painting of him I did for a while now.

Looks like I will likely be a party of one again this week. I'll bring money and beer. Although it's arguably too early, I'm thinking of bringing some Anchor Christmas this week, it being our last tailgate of the season and all.

So I won't have to lug the cooler and chairs all over West Campus, could I arrange to meet someone with a drop-off pass? That would be great!

By the way, if Tom does decide to come, he's bringing Founders Breakfast Stout!

Looking forward to seeing everyone again Sat morning. BDBD is bringing his wife and 2 young daughters (8&9). We will bring sodas and bagels. Please advise if there's anything else that's usually in short supply that we can bring...
