They just announced it. Dan Wheldon died.
Beyond tragic.

Just awful. The open wheel cars don't offer enough protection in situations like this.

A couple of other drivers were taken to hospital in critical condition. Let's hope they manage to pull through.

Horrible. I didn't have the race on, thank goodness, and refuse to watch the video. Very sad.

They were doing the in car video from his car as the initial accident took place in front of him.

I can not imagine how his family could stand to view it. Again, so sad.

I did see the video. It was awful.
Thoughts and prayers to all involved and the families who are living through this utter tragedy.

Umm, I believe this was incorrect. On the broadcast yesterday, they stated that three others went to the hospital: Pippa Mann was in the hospital with a burn to a pinkie finger, JR Hildebrand went because of a suspected concussion, and Will Power was being examined there for back issues. According to ESPN, Power was released. The other two were supposed to be released this morning.

I saw the Indy crash on the news last night. The drivers had so many issues with the track, before the race; saying how dangerous it was. Racing is a very high risk and dangerous sport. When you drive over 200mph, you are taking risks.
Prayers for the family, fans and entire racing nation.
