I'm finally coming to town!

Okay, I don't think I will jinx it this time: I'm coming to town next weekend for the Tulane game! I'm leaving here on Thursday and should arrive in Durham sometime on Friday. Would any of you be available for supper on Friday evening, or will you all be tied up with homecoming activities? Also, do any of you have suggestions on where to stay (or where NOT to stay)?

No homecoming activities for us. Might be able to meet for dinner around 630 or 700PM in the Brier Creek area, technically in Raleigh but about 15 miles from our house and we are 30 miles from Derm.

For somewhere to stay, try the guest accommodations at the Thomas Center on campus. You can walk to the stadium. Parking available on site. http://www.fuqua.duke.edu/admin/rdtc/gu ... tions.html

Sounds like a good potential plan. What restaurants are in the Brier Creek area?

I'll check it out, DitBD. Thanks!

There are many restaurants in the Brier Creek area, both in that shopping center and across US 70 in other shopping centers, where you will find a Red Robbin ("Yumm!"), a carolina Ale House, and several others. And you are only a hop, skip and a jump from the Angus Barn, too, just a mile or so farther east on US 70. I can't join you as I have a fraternity dinner on Friday night on campus at the Faculty Club, which we've rented (it's in front of the Washy Duke and is perfect for medium sized groups under 100 people or so. We've used it before for this purpose.)

I wondered if Angus Barn was the choice. I've never eaten there - I was too poor as a grad student. I'd be all for it now, though.

Pretty spendy. I'd like the carolina Ale House. Great steak sammich shop near Red Robin called Jumpin' Jonnies (oops, just checked web site and they have been sold but still could be open).

I can meet up with y'all Friday night. Saturday events for me are limited as I'm working Saturday morning.

You just might talk DD into that. And I'm damned upset I can't join you there! You'll probably have to wait in the lounge, which is definitely part of the fun! A really nice bar - The Wild Turkey Lounge, free crocks of Port Wine cheddar cheese, crackers and kosher dill pickles. But you have to be careful you don't fill up on crackers and cheese - it's been know to happen! :ymblushing: http://www.angusbarn.com

I'm open for whatever. I'd rather have more people be able to come than go to a place where cost might be prohibitive.

Have a safe trip and a great time! I sure wish I could come but job change prevents it.

I'll have to pass on Friday nite, Arkie. We won't be in town until close to game time. We hope to stop by for a quick visit with the "'Cue Crew". Maybe we can catch up there.
Love, Ima

I meet up with friends at the Angus Barn, many many times. I love the Spinach salad with the poppyseed dressing. The steaks are awesome. Like Larry said, don't fill up on the awesome cheese (cheddar and bleu) crocks and the crackers and pickles. However, that's what a "To Go Box" is for.

The Angus Barn is only in one location! All of the other restaurants are chains or franchises at Briar Creek. You can NEVER go wrong with a dinner at The Angus Barn!

That's okay, DPA. I'm looking forward to meeting the regulars. Getting to pick on Dr. Spells is a bonus. :ymdevil:

Dude is a fellow Ph.D. organic chemist, I believe. At least, I thought he was. Maybe I'm mistaken.
